McDowell looked sharp tonight and played with a sense of urgency that was great to see. They stepped up the defense and Kiser had another strong game. They ran a good little delay about the last 3-4 minutes. Anna was back to her old self driving and shooting. Lovik, Brown, and Smith played well also. Revis had some good minutes. Great game! Just get one more and let's have a good old-fashioned showdown.

it was a great game tonight for both South Caldwell and McDowell. But I am neutral and I just enjoy good high school basketball. I have seen both teams play many times through the years. But tonight I lost ALOT of respect for McDowell. I saw alot of things I normally don't see out of them tonight. But all in all a great game for both teams. Good Luck the rest of the way.

congrats to the Lady Titans on the win tonight. I heard on the radio that Atkinson had 17 of her 19 points in the first half. She was being more aggressive going to the hoop, at least initially. We are gonna need more of that come playoff time.

sportsfan04, what exactly did McDowell do that you didn't like? Coach Silver was interviewed during halftime of the boys game, and he was not satisified with some of the officiating, infact I hear he got a Technical Foul...something must have been wrong for Mike to get a Technical Foul.

Anyways, I've been keeping up on what's going on down in Charlotte. Check out the thread with the potential state playoff brackets, I will be updating it in a couple minutes. There ave been some changes in the last week to 10 days...

bigdan, Silver became aggravated early when Lovik was knocked flat on a screen. She was not looking and the pick by South looked legal except for the double forearm shiver that sent her sprawling. It looked like a football block. There were several other hard fouls and some pushing and elbowing but I thought South was guilty of this more than McDowell.

Then, late in the 4th with the game out of reach, Lovik again tried to make a cut on offense and was pushed blatantly off her cut and she responded with a 2-handed pushoff. The refs called a double foul and Silver proceeded to get a technical. He was just taking up for his player in both cases. There were a couple of other nitpicky calls the refs messed up so he was pretty much on them the whole game.

Now, all that said, I think it is fantastic McDowell went into that tough gym where South is known to play hard and physical, and not only matched but exceeded the toughness displayed by South. Thus, they controlled the game and won easily. They should be extremely proud of the effort and it was CLEAN! Keep playing hard.

I find it hard to believe sportsfan is neutral.

Listen I'm not trying to take up for South Caldwell. I just saw some things out of the McDowell players I have never seen before. Such as unnecessary language. I'm not saying that South Caldwell didn't have there far share of it. But I also didn't see it like I did with the McDowell players. I am not taking anything away from their win. They played a great game and wish them the best of luck in the future.

I didn't get to go to the game tonight but i hope your right and mcdowell did show some aggressiveness. We have been lacking some of that this year and now is the time to show it with the two big games coming up next week. They can't let the rockets push them around on their home floor and maybe what you saw tonight is a priview of what to expect next week.

It looks like we are in for some big changes in the nw4a after next year. Crest was coming back but that may not happen and burke county has announced plans to build two new high schools which would drop freedom and east burke out. Burke would have one 3a school and two 2a programs. Reynolds is also trying to leave and that may put mcdowell in a split conference or send them past hickory to stay in 4a.It's going to get interesting to see how it shapes up.

It's gonna be a while before Burke County gets their new schools, but for those who don't already know the Burke County School Board has all but approved the future need of 2 new High Schools in Burke County, each school averaging from 800-1,200 students. That plan was approved instead of building one new bigger school. From what I hear, one of the schools would consist mainly of people who currently attend Freedom. Freedom has over 2,300 kids, and if this new school has anywhere from 800-1,000 students, it would probably leave Freedom big enough to stay in the 4A Classification. You have to consider, Morganton is still a growing area, and even with new schools, Freedom will get new people. Now East Burke will be the one that may go down a classification due to their being new schools built in the county. East Burke has approx 1,800 students. But once again, this would be quite a few years away, so it's nothing of immediate concern.

There were a lot of fans at SC also wondering why Silver was on the refs so bad. I mean he was getting all the calls last night. With about a minute to go in the first half the foul total was 7-1 in favor of Mcdowell. This was probablly the worst officiated game I have seen this year and I never complain about officiating because it usually evens itself out over the game. Shoot if I had been Silver I would have just kept my mouth shut. Do I think the refs determined who the winner would be ,NO! But the game would have been a good close game if it had been called a little more fairly. The game was tied at 25 each with only a minute or so left in the first half and Mcdowell ran off 6 or 8 points and SC never could catch back up. I do think the offciating took them out of their game moreso than did Mcdowell. I'm not whinning over the refs here just telling it like it was. As I stated I still think Mcdowell would have won if the game good called game as are most of the games

According to the people at ACR we aren't going anywhere, we like the 4A competition and have no desire to leave the NW4A conference!

Well, I didn't see any language, and I certainly couldn't hear any in that hole, but whatever you say. I hope they get tougher!

ReynoldsRocks....Dont be sure of that. Its looking that Smoky Mountain and East Henderson are going back to 2A and Ive heard some folks at Reynolds will petition the NCHSAA to return to the MAC and reform a split conference, citing long travel times. Pansies if they go through with this.

Tony, Realignment will not take place until the end of the 2004-2005 school year and Crest would begin play in 2005-2006. And from talk with Dr. Dan DeHart, Freedom High principal, and Dr. David Burleson, Superintendent, the new schools will not be ready by the time Realignment comes around due to the planning procedures and construction. The talk is right now that the new schools could be ready by the start of the 2006-2007 year. The size of the schools would be slightly bigger than Walter Johnson Middle School.

Just curious, anybody got any ideas of the names of the new schools?

Well, this is coming from a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY reliable source I talked to at the b-ball game Thursday night when we played Watauga at home. I am not going to mention any names, but I know my sources are VERY accurate.

I hope reynolds stays in the nw4a at least for 1 year after crest comes back in. I would love to see those two football programs go at it. But I heard from a strong source that crest was headed to the sw conference and reynolds was copping out to the mac.

I guess south caldwell drawed some refs that would call all the push off fouls south caldwell got away with at mcdowell. Thats what happens some nights, just ask the mcdowell boys ,they couldn't breath on east burke without getting whistled.

I don't care what some person from CREST tells you...ACR WANTS to be in the NW4A and will stay there as long as they put us there. If we aren't in the NW4A it isn't because we want to leave! 99.9% of the coaches at ACR want to stay 4A it helps us prepare for the playoffs, and all this talk is crazy anyway, those schools aren't going to be built anytime before the realignment period. That is just 1 more playing year away, that is really quick to get schools built.

I personally am glad to hear that Reynolds would like to stay in the NW4A. Not knocking on the Rockets, but there were many people down in this part of the country who thought Reynolds got a free ride for way too long, when they were in the MAC 3A/4A.

i dont think this information is just coming from "CREST" people as you so elegantly stated.........numbers are in but no formal discussion to place teams in a certain conferences just yet. Crest left their(NW4A) due to the last realignment and alot of folks outside of the Crest district do anticipate their return there in 2005. They have been in three or four conferences over the years as i remember, swc, charlotte confernce(mega??)NWC4a and this swfc. Has ACR always been in the MAC?

I personally see ACR staying and AC leaving but those two Future schools will not determine conference alignment for '05.

rocket..........:p........ its the NCHSAA at work and us, coaches and parents dont really work into the equation!

Enjoy this season with the basketball and good luck in the tournament/playoffs!

For quite a while I felt that Alex. Central was leaving also, but now looking at the numbers, they will probably stay in the NW4A because East Rowan and High Point Central are moving up to 4A.
