I have windows ME...yeah, yeah...I know it sucks....plus my hard drive is getting dated...Can I just install XP or 200 as an over write OS and will I get better performance?

I'm pretty sure the answer is 'yes', but I've only installed xp on a raw drive.

Man I hate the idea of dropp 100$ today but this thing is out of hand! I get error messages out the ass and lock ups at least 5 times a session and if i am on for more than an hr i have to reboot at least twice
yeah...I would go to Windows 2000. Instead of upgrading to 2000 you should format then install windows 2000. Just put the 2000 disc in and it'll give you that option. (oh yeah, go NTFS)

What he said. Problem:you lose all files and apps used for Win ME. Fuck 'em.
Installing XP is so easy, and it's SO stable. I'm not kidding when i said my machine has crashed 2 times since November, and I had like 15 windows open.
I have 512 RAM, too.

GO to www.microsoft.com and try windows update to get the current SP. I've also go ME because I don't have the time to change over to XP which I have.
You need at least 256 Mb of memory and should have at least 4 GB of HD space.

What he said. Upgrading is never better than a fresh install. If you're PC is performing poorly it may be your hardware or the lack thereof. More RAM.

Windows ME sucks, period. I'd do a raw install just to be sure I didn't have anything from ME left on it!
