I've got a PC that's in dire need of an upgrade.

More memory, new system board, new monitor, bigger hard drive to hold all the DAOC patches....

PS2 - no problems, love it.
GameBoy Advance - doesn't get as much use as I'd like.

Also have a PS1 and Dreamcast (it was fun while it lasted). In addition I have my NES and SNES that still run when I get the need to play a really old game. i wish I had an Atari still. I suppose that's what emulators are for. I'm a big-time retro-gamer.

anybody know the differences in the various ATI videocards such as 9600, 9600SE, 9600XT, 9600 Pro, 9800, 9800SE, etc?

Hell, that shit ranges from like $149-$500 bucks. I guess I'll wait for half-life2 and doom3 and look at some benchmarks.

These are in working order and I have a TV that I switch them back and forth with just for old times sake.
Atari
Nitendo
Sega Genisis

PS2 and Nitendo 64 is hooked up in the living room.
PS1 in the bedroom.

Me and my step-son have a Gameboy advance
My step-daughter has a Gameboy Color
and we all three have old Gameboys.

I guess my wife has gotta love me to put up with all this stuff.
We love us some games at the Smashmouth house.

do not upgrade right now if it involves getting a new system board. PCI Express, Serial ATA, BTX form factor, etc, just around the corner from being standard.

The 9800 uses DDR2 ram, I believe. I am not a big fan of the 9600 series. You can buya 9700 pro for not much more.

In order of speed (fastest - slowest)

9800XT
9800Pro
9700Pro
9700
9600XT
9600Pro
9800SE (crap)
9600
.
.
.
9600SE (piece of ####)

I love ATi, and would advise a 9800 pro/XT or a 9700 Pro. For nVidia, the 5900XT is a really good card for the money. It's a 5900 with the clock settings dialed down a bit. You can, of course, ratchet them back up with software. Costs about half as much as its sibling card.

I'm not going with nvidia again.

I'm aware of the speed differences in the various ATIs, I'm just more concerned about feature sets, mainly being fully Directx 9 compatible.

Classic Nintendo
Super Nintendo
PS1
PS2
XBox
PC

Only the last three are being shipped here to Korea. The rest are in my best friend's safekeeping for the next 3 years or so.

Those are all DX 9 cards.

Same features on each, subject to 3P manufacturer's whims. The AIW is the full featured card.
