Akendra Brown had 21, Atkinson 18, I think. I had to listen over the radio for this one. McDowell led by 13 at the break, then increased it to either 14 or 16 (or both?) before Reynolds came back to tie. McDowell then got the lead back and maintained it for the final margin. Emily Lovik was regional MVP. Good season for the Lady Rockets, and IMO, quite surprising. Many wrote them off after the graduation of Sammy Stone, but they really played tough TEAM ball this year. I know several of their players personally, and they are great kids. For McDowell, I hate to say it, but wait till you see what's coming next year, even with everyone returning. You wouldn't believe it if I told you...... :scared2:

What's coming next year, I want to know.
Congratulations to the lady Titan Basketball team and Coach Silvers. :applause: :applause: Great season for the lady Rockets too.
I am glad to see Emily Lovik get MVP, I thought she should have got it for the NW4A tourney too.

Great job lady titans. Anyone who follows basketball knows how hard it is to beat a good team twice in one season. The lady titans showed a lot of heart after going over to Fairview and getting beat by 15 early in the year. Reynolds is a very good team and for mcdowell to come back and beat them three straight times is very impressive to say the least. And just think all these ladies (except one ) will be back next year. I think a lot of credit has to go to coach Silvers. Unlike the boys program at mcdowell his teams always seem to come together and improve as the season goes on. Good luck mcdowell and bring that trophy back to the moutains next week. And to the lady rockets you have nothing to hang your head over because you had a great season and helped mcdowell proudly show the street ball crowd in charlotte how to play real team basketball

Tony, you're a bloomin idiot for not coming... You missed a classic game. I just hope you got nerve to come down to Raleigh next weekend. Never be afraid to watch Lady Titan basketball!!

McDowell certainly laid it all on the line as Akendra played the game of her career and definitely earned her status as a member of the All-Western Regional team. But not to slack Anna or Aimee Kiser who also was on the team and Emily for her MVP. This team deserved to win despite being on the losing end of 2 regional finals. Even though ACR tied it up at 52, they never broke and charged ahead for the win. Also, kudos goes out to Kristen Revis for bustin her butt defensively as she was all over the court shaggin loose balls, being their at the right time to poke the ball away, and other great plays she made on the defensive standpoint. Good luck ladies next weekend, lets shoot down those Dirty Birds ( 71st Falcons ) !!!!

But Im not slacking ACR. I shook hands with several players (Katie Rybacki, Sydney Alexander, Brianna Worley) as well as Coach Art Snead upon my exit from the LJVM Annex, as they have no reason to hang their head in shame. When they made their big comeback from 16 down in the 3rd, I thought we was gonna break and they were going to charge into the lead..but McDowell pulled ahead. Maybe its just me, but I thought that run spent ACR up and they got tired the rest of the way (Even though they kept the lead close) To be 3rd in the State of North Carolina is not a bad prize and Im proud of them as well as the Northwestern 4A Conference is proud of you too!!

truly a classic down in Winston-Salem today. Everyone for both McDowell and Reynolds played their "A" game today. There are a couple things for McDowell that I want to focus on...

The Seniors showed their pride today. McDowell is more or less dominated by the juniors on the team, but the Seniors are the ones that deserve a lot of credit. Revis played as good as anybody. Her offensive stats may not show it, but her hustle and her defense was key to McDowell's win. The same can be said for Bruington also.

The character of the Lady Titans was tested today and they passed. That 16 point lead at halftime was too much of a tease. Reynolds came storming back and got as close as having possession with a chance of taking the lead. The Lady Titans fell short the last two years in the regionals. and the Reynolds comeback had many McDowell fans thinking: "Could it happen again?" I think McDowell showed the heart and desire to not let that happen for a 3rd time. The steal by Atkinson at half court in the early 4th period and two foul shots were, IMO, the play that signified that McDowell was unwilling to let it slip away again. Anna nailed both foul shots, and doubled the lead to four points, and that started the run that put Reynolds away.

Congratulations to McDowell, now it's time to prepare for the State Championship, nothing would be any more sweet than to bring the title to Marion. And I also want to say congratulations to Reynolds on one hell of a season. Definintely nothing to hand their heads over.

First off Congratulations to McDowell, you were the best team tonight and for the past three games and deserve to be playing next Saturday. To the Lady Rocket players thank you for a truly great season, not many, if ANY expected you to be here. You went after a dream like true champions, and every fan at Reynolds is proud of you. You got down early and NEVER quit, and if I must say, put a lot of scare into those McDowell fans early in the 4th quarter. To Sydney, Katie Mac, Kendra, and Brooke, thanks for your leadership for this years team, and your years of dedications to the LADY ROCKET program. You will always be Lady Rockets! Good Luck to the Lady Titans next week. We are all pulling for you!

I have to disagree with your statement about very few if any expecting the lady rockets to be where they were this year. I told the fans I sit with at McDowell at the very first of the season Reynolds would be the team to deal with. A lot of people thought Freedom would be our greatest threat but I knew the lady rockets would be there. They are a good group of girls and have a good coach. You guys should have jumped on board the western 4A express years ago. You get a lot more respect playing and losing to teams like McDowell than you did steam rolling over the erwins and enkas in the mac. No direspect intended. Great season, see ya next year.

Mr.Warden. I really wanted to be sitting there yesterday just like I was there at hickory last year but when you work my schedule you have to give the better half some time. I may have been absent in body but I was there in spirit. I love following the lady titans because they are so much like the tar heels, They may loose a game but they never loose their heart. I have to give the McDowell Jv coach and their head coach Mike Silver credit for a lot of that.I hope things work out so I can go to raliegh this weekend. I beleive the better half will understand this one is extra special. And win or lose we will still come home with that glowing silver dome titan pride.

The reason I said very few expected us to be where we were was because I honestly don't think many out there expected the Lady Rockets to be in the Western Regional Finals when the year started. The past 2 years they had lost in the first round of the playoffs, and had never proven they could do it, not to mention they had just lost their only proven inside player to graduation. Did I think they had the talent to do it, certainly but until a team proves it you take a wait and see attitude. That is why we here at Reynolds are so pleased with the Lady Rockets, they lived up to their potential, which is refreshing. I agree about playing the tough competition, it does help. Seeing that we only lost to three teams this year, and two of them (Thomasville, and McDowell) are playing for a state title, and Asheville is playing to go to the State finals on Monday, we aren't hanging our heads!
