In an effort to get out of the house, drink some beers, and get a little exercise, a few of us here are getting a TBR/Schlotzsky's (my store) softball team together. As of now, LarryD,BearBryant,ChuckRichey,TheBrain,MathMajors, and myself are onboard. We need about 6 or 7 more to fill out the roster. Who wants to play? Tentative arrangements have been made to play on Sunday afternoons, at Park Rd park, I believe. Experience is probably good, but not necessary. If your like me, my beer drinking skills are better honed than my softball skills, so i see it as a win-win situation.
Post here, and as soon as I get some more info, I'll let you know.

Well I would but I can't commit to driving to Charlotte every Sunday. Plus Sundays I'm usually so sick from a hangover, I wouldn't be worth a shit anyway. And Sundays are big TV sports days. I don't think I could drag myself away from college b-ball or whatever other sport happens to be on.

No full time commitment is needed. If you can make a couple of games, the more the merrier. As far as sunday t.v. is concerned, now that football season is over and the heels won't be playing past march 7th or so, there ain't nothing on tv. Now I love baseball, but i can't watch the cubbies v. the a's on wgn from scottsdale, az. So you might as well jump on board. Hell, the fact you be one of the few to have a cool TBR jersey is reason enough to pitch in on the entry.

Speaking of which, we need some kinda cool graphic to get on the jersey. Any ideas on that?

I'd love to play, but the commute would be a nightmare...really. But as for a graphic... what's the team's name?

There are those among us who would not forsake NASCAR.

Are you somebody at the Schlotzky's on 7th?

Oh Yeah, I forgot about Nascar. When I worked out at the Speedway, I was right on top of that stuff. Now, I tend to forget.

Does that mean you aren't playing?? I've got you in the lineup.

I should be able to play. I was just warning you about nothing happening on Sundays.

My colleague from work and I usually are in your place every week, or every other week. It's tapered off since her schedule changed. She's a short redhead. I'm the guy with her. That's all I got - you got a million people in there everyday.

Thinking...Thinking...

Nope can't get the picture of you. Bet I'd recognize you tho if you come in as much as you say. And I wish my bank account reflected the "million" of folks that are always in there.

I'll keep it in mind. Wouldn't want to put you in a bad spot, though.

I'll steer everyone your way Monday.

Gotta go watch a movie with my woman. Thanks for the softball invite.

Ah, Putt... Welcome aboard.

You make a fine addition.

Perhaps, you and LarryD can use your influence to get us a couple more to play.

I'm game, but I'm not promising much. I can guarantee one thing... if the other guy's driving home and I'm at the plate with the ball, the ball AIN'T comin' out, and ain't gettin ANYWHERE near the plate.

grrrrrr....

As I said on teh sports board, we gotta get flag football together in the fall.

So far we got:
bunkyboy
LarryD
Bear Bryant
Chuck Richey
MathMajor
TheBrain(maybe)
PuttinGood
Big Mark
some ringers Putt knows
ShadowChaser
did I miss anybody?

Like I said, I emailed and called this league about there Sunday afternoon league. As soon as I get some info, I'll let you know.
We'll need to get in a practice or 2, right? Assuming everything works out, what say we try for next weekend to get together?
I don't need the beer drinking practice, but could use a couple of spring training warm ups. The 12 oz curls have got my elbow in fine shape, and my fingers are nimble from typing, but the shoulder could use a good stretching, as well as the hammy. Hate to pull a groin the first game and ruin my spring.

I don't know how I missed this thread all weekend. I'm up for some softball. I haven't played in a while, but I played on the all-star team in junior high. I'll play under one condition. I can use my golf shoes as softball cleats.

slydevl
02-18-02, 11:40 AM
I signed up on the other thread but was missed. I can play anywhere and can go yard. I am already playing in a league on thursdays so Sundays would be great and park rd park is right around the corner from my house. My current league is Nevin Park and that is a haul from my house. Anyway, Im in.

LarryD

wonder what we have to do to secure a field to practice on this weekend?

WYDD
02-18-02, 11:43 AM
hey, if you guys need a lefty with no power, and no real softball experience, who used to run fast, but has bad knees, i'm your man. I have been part of a soccer team that broke out a keg halfway through a game, so playing a sport intoxicated is nothing new to me.

Puttingood
02-18-02, 11:48 AM
Jacking, drinking and laughing sounds like a plan to me.

:)

Bunky---you would be surprised to see how many of those 70s Howards boys are still around. Some of them don't look like much but they never were a purty bunch to start with.

Well, if driving every Sunday to Charlotte wasn't a hardship, I'd definitely be there. I'm really good at catching balls! ;) I volunteer to be the team cheerleader, though. Can I now get coupons for free sandwiches at Schlotsky's?

Oh yeah, now i know what i want for lunch. Haven't eaten there in over 3 years. Now, I wonder if there is one near this forsaken job of mine....

I could be the team photographer! :D I'll play too if y'all still need s'more players. Like WYDD, I have bad knees. I was tackled playing football with my fraternity brothers and my right leg bent in a certain way that it wasnt supposed to. I have been on occasional therapy since then (the past 6 years) and I wear a brace to support the joint.... but as long as there is no tackling involved, it should be ok. :)

I'll update a player list in a little while. I got you SlyDevl. Tho any Dook fan has to sit at the end of bench, haul the equipment, bring refreshments, provide chewing gum, sunflower seeds, or tobacca. Dook fans must be the batboy, chase down foul balls, clean the bases betweeen innings, bring refreshments, wait, nope they won't be allowed to sit on the bench, you must stand the whole time. I'm sure I'll think of a few more dook rules, but that's enough to get started.

I still haven't heard from this interlink-charlotte league,o i'll try again in a bit.
As far as this weekend goes, lets do it. I imagine we could find a field somewhere kinda central to all of us. I can go saturday afternoon, or sunday morning/afternoon but gotta go by 4.

I'd presume most everyone to have some sort of equipment. Most of my stuff is for baseball, so I'm counting on some others to provide some bats.

We need some more team names? So far BeerBarians and MasterBatters have been proposed.
