Read on anothere web site today that Alexander Central is looking for a Men's Basketball coach. What happened with Boone? It sure seems that it may be hard to please som epeople in T-Ville. Boone inherited a program that didn't win a conference game in three years, and has been one game out of the playoffs the last two years. I hope it is not another case of the Good Ole Boys picking and choosing coaches.

As a viewer from a distance, I can tell you Boone's team.. gasp.. UNDERACHIEVED for two years. The group of seniors from this year should have breezed to that last playoff spot and to be quite honest were more talented than McDowell who finished third.
Knowing a few people at AC, I can tell you Boone was never going to win any popularity contests because of his arrogance to other teachers and coaches.
Moving ahead, AC has some returning talent. I personally think that team can be a legit playoff contender next year. I know South Caldwell has alot of returning players as does McDowell. East Burke graduated alot but that never seems to hurt Bliss. I think its a sign of a great coach is one that doesn't have to rebuild, he just reloads. I feel the same way about Davis at Freedom but to a lesser degree. I don't know if anyone will agree with me, but the talent pool at Freedom is greater than most of the rest of the NW4a if just for the sheer number of students at the school. Reynolds loses their two top scorers, so I think they will stuggle. Watauga is going to struggle too I think.
Will be interesting to see the contenders for the job... cause in one year, they might do what Boone didn't...

Your right. They did underachieve, however other than some spring sports who else has been winning at AC? :feedback:

If wins and losses were the indicator of job performance, Deal and Whittington should turn in their resignations with Boone.:applause:

Have not visited this site since moving to Charlotte, however it sounds like the Principal is playing the good ol boy game once again.

Does anyone know if they have even offered the job to Brian Lewis? He was Coach Boone's assistant for 2-3 years. He knows the kids, and the system. He is very qualified and he is "in house". I am not sure if he wants the job, but if he does then he should have a chance to show what he can do.:xyzthumbs

CFBall, I couldn't agree with you more..But, things don't work that way at ACHS. They like to bring people in from out of town.

welp.. just i would let u all know.. we have found our guy.. hes from a school up in WV... when he was in college at UNC Chapel Hill he served as a manager under Dean Smith and so he has seen alot of the way things go in the game... I do have this to say... Things are gonna continue to only get better at AC for me and everyone else that goes there and is involved with athletics... The boys basketball program has picked up a great coach and great asset to the community and team. just thought i would let ya'll know and put all the names going around to rest...

I hope, that especially in the high school level that it's not all about wins and losses and that is what determines success. Knowing many of the athletes in several sports at AC, they are learning much about themselves and life while participating in the "games" that we see. Living in Alexander county for 20 years and NOT living in the city of T-ville, I have come to see first hand how "outsiders" are treated and looked upon, so it makes sense when a new coach comes in that is not a "winner" from day one (wins/losses) that they want to run them off. They did not give Roger Bumgarner a chance with the women’s BB program, with some of the more influential supporters calling for his head midway through the season and more concerned about their own kids playing time. It is frustrating. I have coached rec ball and it reminds me a lot like a rec program where if you take the parents out of the equation, the kids are much happier and they and the teams perform better. But we shall see how Coach Wills does and how the community handles it. First game against Wilkes was a win last night so that is a good thing!

From the game last night against Wilkes Central, it looks as if Coach Wills has these guys playing with all of their heart. The hustle out there on the court was tremendous in the win. Yes it was by only one point but a win is a win either way you look at it and it is always good to get the season started off with a win, especially for a new coach. Good job guys. Keep working hard and things will start to change around there for the good. :xyzthumbs
