If they just redid halo 1 with live support it would be worth it to me. I can't wait. I'd rather them take the time to do it right. I think it'll surprise you based on the movies and shots I've seen.

given that the xbox is a stable environment, it's not like the engine isn't still pretty much the best you could hope for. i'm sure they'll tweak it to get more out of it, but i doubt there's much more to get.

that being said, if halo 2 ends up just being more new scenarios and live support (not that i'm into the live scene) that's good enough for me. halo is far and away the best fps i've played.

the longer they take their time adding more stuff, the better it'll be.

they've improved the lighting engine, bumpmapping, and several other things, but I'm not really looking for much in the way of graphical improvements. I have a feeling it'll be much better than halo 1, since they haven't had to use much time on the engine itself. In fact, they hired some lighting guru who's going through each level and tweaking all the lighting effects.

With a title like HALO I don't think they'll really sell any more copies if they wait until the holidays. They'll sell just as many if they they released it now.

it'll come out when it's done, and passes Microsoft's QA. Xmas has no relevance. I'm sure they'd LOVE to get it out around thanksgiving at the latest, but they're not going to sit on a game and wait for a certain time to release it. I've even seen huge games come out the week after christmas, diablo 2 for one. Good games will sell, no matter when they release. In other words, it's not completed, and I'm not sure where you got the idea that it was. Bungie.net has an ongoing development log that updates the progress weekly, and it's obvious that it's not done.

No big deal really, it's not like it's Duke Nukem Forever. :D

What is the big deal about Halo? I bought it for the Xbox, played with some friends who gushed about it, fell asleep from boredom, then retired it to collect dust. Then I fell for the "you gotta play it online" argument. So I traded a friend for the PC version - same old snoozer. The guns suck, the maps are boring with no good cover and look like they were designed in 15 minutes by a bored Bungie intern.

On XBox - Return To Castle Wolfenstein was 10 times as much fun. On PC, everything from Battlefield 1942/Vietnam to Planetside absolutely blows it away.

I just cant get into the goober in the motorcross suit fighting a bunch of hunchbacked teletubbies. Think I'll go play the Soldner demo instead. Destructable terrain and more realistic weapon damage (one shot kills) make for much better strategy.

Well, I don't know what version of Halo you played, but in the one I did, you can kill with one shot, if it is a Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, or Shotgun (close range).

The rest of the guns wouldn't kill a regular human unless they landed in your face. Plus, your whole body is covered by armor. That kind of changes things.

I don't think Halo is great, but it's fun. I hate FPS, but Halo with a group of 7 other guys is a riot. Or, if you want hell in a cell, prisoner, with rocket lauchers and 16 guys in pure insanity.

I am getting an XBox, but only for Fable.

I agree, Halo is the most overrated game Ive ever played. unreal, bf1942, desert combat blow Halo away.

HALO is the best console game. FarCry and BF1942 are great games, but can't get them on XBOX. Alot of people can't afford a nice machine to run games like that. Unreal for XBOX sucked, and that game bombed out, never did well. HALO is the best game and proved itself for a console game. I dont know if any of you have seen the in-game preview for HALO 2, but that looks badass. The way the story-line will be set, it's going to be made so it takes more than a couple days to beat, and like the first one, each time you beat it, you get a different ending. They can take their time.

aint that the truth. I played it for all of 5 minutes. Doesnt even compare to pc version. Going from mouse and keyboard to game pad sucked ass. nowhere near the accuracy.

OK, there's where I get off the goober train. I'm sure I'm a complete nerd, but my goodness is playing a single player video game BORING. The entertaining aspect of any of these games to me is head to head play, preferably squad based tactical head to head. I'm the goober that likes the militray themed objective games (and the team based UT200x stuff too). The rest of it is like watching Martha Stewart cooking shows to me, with the exception of some EA sports games like NCAA Football.

Maybe that's why I don't like Halo. I despise games that you try to "beat". If chess was so linear and repetitive, it never would have survived. Neither will that crap. Give me a varied, tactical player versus player environment everytime and the opportunity to beat you by being smarter.

:rofl:I thought you'd enjoy that.

On many of your points I have to agree. I enjoy the teamwork of a lot of online military games. I used to be HUGE on the Delta Force series online and tinkered a little in Return To Castlewolfinstein and BF1942, but on occassion I like to play single player if it has an interesting enough story behind it. Its almost as if participating in a movie.

I do however like the fact that many games are giving an option to both. That way you can enjoy the storyboard part and then take it to another level by playing online.

the reason I play halo is because its an awesome xbox game. I've have the system since launch and still play halo. Maybe if the other games you listed were released on the xbox, I'd look into playing them, but right now I don't give a damn about any of the PC games.

I hate playing games on PC. I'm all about the Console. PC games don't promote multi-player games. At least, not in any other format besides Online.

That would be great, but I actually like to play video games with my friends.

i got castle wolfenstien for the xbox cuz of the multiplayer support and i figured id could do a good engine (tho i'm not sure this is really id's engine on xbox).

it sucks. horrible controls, so-so graphics... i love bungie's design sense, their story arcs, technology. i always prefered marathon to doom.

Huh? That's the whole point of PC Online games - BF1942 is online only.

Oh, you're talking about sitting beside somebody and sharing a screen... Yeah, Goldeneye was reallyf un when my brother could just look at my tiny little corner of the screen and see where I was. Kinda ruined the game.

That's fine that you like only playing games online, but I rather enjoy hanging out with my friends and playing games. PCs do not facilitate video gaming with your friends in person. Online is cool and all, but even consoles allow you to play with your friends online and be in the same room.

Well, the linear first person shooters have survived just fine for the past 10 years, and the games you DO like are direct descendants of them. Halo 2 online is going to be a varied, tactical player versus player environment as well as co-op.

Unless it has better guns, maps & better objective based play, I'll pass.

there will be several objective based multiplayer modes, and co-op play will be there, which is pretty much non-existant in the type of games you seem to like. Better guns and maps is pretty much a given with all the time they're taking, plus the engine hasn't needed a lot of work, so most of the time is going towards content. It sounds like your mind is already made up, if you don't mind missing out on a killer game, that's your business.

It's id's engine, and it's showing it's age. Quake 3 can only go so far.

Great, a fanboy. As if the intarweb weren't annoying enough.Nope, I just don't see any reason to think that they won't improve what you claim is lacking. The developer logs have said they've spent a long time on guns and maps, plus the objective based game types. Perhaps you should do some research about what they're doing before you discount the game out of hand. One visit to bungie.net would show that they're concentrating on exactly what you mention.

Feel free to ignore my fanboyism. If thinking that a game with an average score of 95.6 (all known reviews averaged on gamerankings.com) is great makes me a fanboy, then so be it. I certainly didn't mean to annoy you, but since you've opened the name-calling up, I'll make it a point to do so in the future.

Thanks for making a good argument other than "I don't like it so it must suck."

Capture the flag rules. That requires all the strategy in the world, if you're playing with people who know what they are doing.

I would rather play CTF on Halo with 7 of my friends, on two TVs, than I would with 7 friends on seperate computers in different houses.

And that is a big deal, because I really hate FPS and suck pretty bad at most of them. Halo is just fun enough that I can get involved.
