I read ign.com's previews for each. On paper a tougher call than I'd like. I'm getting burned out on the front end menus of EA sports games though. I really don't like them. That aside, which game should earn my $50?

I'm getting ESPN, just like last year. They've redone the graphics for the xbox, so it'll look a hell of a lot better than madden, which is ported over from the ps2. Also they've added more ESPN stuff to it. Madden will get owned by ESPN, at least on the xbox..

other than one occasion, i've never been done wrong by easports. on the other hand, i've bought lots of non-easports crap, that was only a waste of money. for that reason, i am easports-only.

I'll just get both and then judge.
Just saw that Terrell Owens is going to be the coverboy for ESPN 2005, so there's some points off right away. :)
Madden 05 all the way. Can't wait to play with Clinton Portis running for the Redskins.

not like it matters to me since ESPN pretty much stayed in my xbox last year and I forgot what the box looked like..

you don't remember Warren Sapp's mugshot showing up every time you turned on the xbox?
EA Sports just announced that their games will be on Xbox Live, starting with NCAA 2005. About fucking time, I say.

Madden is the only EA Sports game I prefer over Sega’s equivalent, and I didn't feel that way until the 2003 release. Too early to call, but I’ll probably stick with Madden for another year. If only you could take the best from both games.

Nova,
I dunno man. Have you seen the video previews of ESPN and the new features? It's ridiculous. I'd prefer gameplay, but madden's graphics can't hold a candle.

i bought both of them last year- madden 04 was definitely better imo so im goin to buy madden 05 next year. the gameplay in madden was way better than espn, and so was the online play. i might buy both, but madden 05 will be the first one i buy.

Madden 04 blew espn out of the water. The gameplay is far superior. on ESPN when the runners turn it does not look realistic whatsoever it is like they jerk and then start running at a straight angle with their backs as straight as can be. it's like an old computer game. You can't beat EA sports. NCAA is the best, NBA LIVE is the best, March madness is the best, Fight night is the best, MVP baseball is the best, and MADDEN is the crown jewel!!!

For what its worth at this year's E3 Video Game Expo EA NCAA Football 2005 won best sports game of the year, first Runner up was ESPN NFL Football 2005, and Madden 2005 wasn't listed. However it did finish as first runner up for best online Game of the Year.

now you're onto something there. EA's ncaa football is the king of football games. best game ever, and thats coming from a baseball diehard.

Yeah, I gotta agree with the NCAA Football props. That game was phenomenal. Unfortunately, I don't feel the same way about any of the other EA games I have. ESPN College Hoops was better than MM '04. And, after renting both games, I strongly prefer ASB '05 to MVP. IMO, it's not even close.
Sorry Ruckus, I'm not a fanboy. I was hoping to sarcastically prevent fanboys from posting the usual fawning here. Looks like I failed. I just like a well made sports game. Doesn't matter to me who made it.
I'm leaning towards the ESPN NFL game now. If I buy anything EA, it'll be NCAA 2005.

Everyone has their opinions but i think it's tought to beat MVP. I love NCAA. Their have been many hours in the dorm spent running shop on NCAA. IT IS THE BEST
