Hasbeens, It's true that God knows all and sees all right? He knows the past the present and the future, right. And he sees all this at the same time. If he sees something bad is coming up, why can't he stop tape, splice and take it away before it happens?

He can jb, but he chooses not to. He makes us live with what we do.
It takes much more love to let someone do something that you know may end up hurting them (or someone else) than it does to stop them before they do it.
And God knows that, in the end, he has the final say.

It actually makes sense if you think about it. If god made man in his image, and man likes sex and violence, it stands to reason that god does as well.

That is what I meant when I said that it takes more love to let us screw things up than it does to do them for us. God could make it where no one ever felt pain or had bad things happen. But to do that he would have to take away our free will. IMO, free will is the greatest gift that God has given us, so it is not a good trade.

I agree with this completely, and that's why I don't understand why so many Christians want to censor things and legislate morality. To me, that takes away peoples' choice to either do something positive or learn from something negative.

Kinda like controlled chaos?
JB...dont look so hard into things. Stuff happens and there are not always going to be cut and dry reasons why. You have to go with the flow and take one day at a time and look out for yourself. You will drive yourself nuts trying to figure every experience out and relating it to God. Think about it...how can God watch all people on this earth at all times. Not gonna happen...at least I dont believe it has/is/will. Why do serial rapist & murders die in jail of old age??? Who knows and who cares.
Lay your Bible down for awhile and get out there and have some fun

I think this question is about your dad, but it fits in a lot of different situations. Accidents, weather, and all sorts of other things. There are other reasons God allows bad things to happen to people. Sometimes it takes something bad and painful to break someone out of their comfort zone -- to get them to start looking toward Him for everything instead of staying focused on themselves. I know it did for me. I wasn't looking for God's help in my life until my wife was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. It took her experience to shake me into the reality that I was not in control, so I started looking toward the One who is. Does that make sense?

Lots of people care, and some people have an idea.
God is a lot bigger than you're describing here, SY. God is everywhere at once. He is not confined to the rules and boundaries of our material existence. By His very definition, He has to be. And because He is everywhere, and does know everything, through Him everything has a purpose. I've found that if I try to look at things that happen from God's perspective and with His values in mind, most of the time I can figure out at least part of what that purpose is.

I agree with what Hasbeens posted above. Tragedy can have a purpose in God's plan.
You lost your father, I lost a child.
As hard as that is and as much as it hurts we grew stronger for it. I have a question for you.
Would you be as close to God today without that tragedy in your life?

Everyday on AM radio they play about 4 or 5 different sermons from different preachers. One of them is Adrian Rodgers, i really like him. Well, anyways, he was talking about God sees all, knows all about us. He knows our future, our present and our past and he can see it all at once. I really do believe that things happen for a reason. But this really didn't have anything to do with my dad. I think i might already know why that might of happened. Of course, i won't know really till i meet Jesus but i think that maybe and i really do hope this~ that the people who killed my dad were going down a path, their life before my dad's death was pretty miserable. Maybe this will cause them to seek Jesus as their saviour. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Or maybe it has touched someone elses life, i know it has mine.
Really i was thinking of some other tragedies i've seen in the paper lately. like the 5 yr. old that got killed by his babysitter's lawnmower.
As far as me putting down the bible, that won't happen. It has been the only thing that has given me any kind of peace from all this crap. I love learning, i pray every night that i will become more knowledgeable and have a closer relationship with Jesus. It fills me with such hope and peace that i don't get from anywhere else.

I really don't know how to take this. Are you trying to be helpful, or am i annoying you cause i am asking questions? I'm not sure exactly what you mean by dwelling on things. This is a religious forum and i have questions so i ask.
Patti you can't work through something by ignoring it or just pushing it down inside you.

Yes I am trying to be helpful. And no you are not annyoing me. And what I meant by dwelling on things is that I know in the past you have tried to figure out why some things have happened, and I don't think that is always possible.
And as for working through things you are absolutely right you can't do that by ignoring them, but at the same time you and both agree that we won't get an answer for some things until we get to heaven.

Patti's right- there's nothing wrong with thinking through things, trying to figure it out and certainly you have to work through it. But if you get to the point that your every thought is revolving around that and it's consuming you... that's when you have to let it go and quit tormenting yourself. Give it to God and let Him give you his peace.

I thought from your questions in this thread about why God doesn't stop bad things from happening and why does bad things happen when you don't make a mistake was along the same line of questions you had about your dad's death.

Whatever...Im just here to tell ya not all answers are going to be found in the Bible. Life is all what you make out of it. We live in a great country that affords us the opprotunity to experience just about anything imaginable. Luckily I was able to get out in my 20's and travel. I hit some bumps in the road...but I learned from them. I matured a lot and thank the Lord above he sent me on that avenue. My eyes were opened to a grand world and it gave me the testicular fortutide to fly from the nest and plant a new seed. I am not cowering in my room at night, alone, fearing what tomorrow is going to bring. I've learned to except the things that come my way and dont look back once the troubled times have passed. I feel sorry for someone so young and so twisted that they have no alternative/friends/family to slap him a few times and wake his arse up to live.
Only the good die young

It's funny how i come here to this religious forum to ask a question and all of sudden people think they know me, i dwell on things, i cower in my room, i'm twisted and i don't live.
So, if i come on here and said i was having sex with several girls, drinking, smoke pot and do whatever i want then you would say that i was living?!
Southern Yankee, you can travel and see the world and whatever else and you can do that with God. good/nice guys might finish last, here on earth, but if you have accepted Jesus as your saviour then you will get your reward in Heaven. Some people might seem to have a lot here on earth but that is there reward, they have been paid in full and won't recieve a reward in Heaven. :D

Which all boils down to the same thing as why does God let bad things happen. It's the same question you were asking about your father's death years ago. I just think it's a question that no one can answer. Man has been asking that question since the beginning of time. The Bible says the rain will fall on the just and the unjust.
The thing that I think that has come out of your father's death is that you can relate to people that have suffered things similar to you. You could be a great help and comfort to them. But I do think you will have to accept the fact that life isn't always fair and bad things do happen to good people.

Nice bunch of random cliches. What are you trying to say, and do you really believe it?As I get older the "cliches" become truth.
If I leave an opening between the car in front of me going down the highway...someone is going to cut me off and take it.
Why do beautiful women marry/wanna be with "bad boy" rock stars? Ladies like Heather Locklear and Rachel Hunter...cause they have a GOOD TIME. The nice, romantic, lay their coat over a mud puddle so your little feet dont get wet types are the ones left standing in the door way wondering what happened after their date...while she is inside on the phone calling a "real" man to come service her properly.
And...why do killers, rapists, child molestors and other freaks of nature die old in prison while the church bus plunges over a cliff?
I dont have the answers. I was just trying to give jb some manly advice. He is vulnerable and needs a male figure in his life. Yeah, you are gonna say he has God or Jesus...Im talking a physical, human being he can relate to and learn the ways of the world. Whatever he decides to do is fine with me. Some people have to learn the hard way.

Yep.

The nice, romantic, lay their coat over a mud puddle so your little feet dont get wet types are the ones left standing in the door way wondering what happened after their date...while she is inside on the phone calling a "real" man to come service her properly.
It's not that simple. For every Heather Locklear married to a Richie Sambora, there's a Heather Locklear or Pam Anderson who married a Tommy Lee and got hepatitis C or beaten or worse. It's not always about a 'good time', though sometimes it is. Sometimes it's about glamour. Sometimes it's about fame. Sometimes it's about a Florence Nightingale mentality that good girls get, thinking they can find the 'diamond in the rough' -- the good heart of the bad seed. And not all gentlemen finish last. I just celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary and I'll put my marriage up against any in Hollywood.
And...why do killers, rapists, child molestors and other freaks of nature die old in prison while the church bus plunges over a cliff?
Not always. Sometimes a Billy Graham lives to see his mid-80's while the child molester catches a shiv in the shower room. Sometimes the monsters seem to 'get away with it', sometimes they get an M1-A1 Abrams rolling through their living room.
But even when it does seem unjust, if you look at life from God's perspective the church bus rolling off the cliff doesn't sound so bad. Those people just started their eternity in the presence of someone they adore, never feeling pain or suffering or shame ever again. And even if the rapist does live to be 90, so what? Ninety years of indulgence on earth will quickly pale in comparison to an eternity of suffering in hell.
I don't disagree at all that JB could use a strong male figure in his life (besides Jesus) -- someone who's been there and done that; who will pat him on the back when he succeeds and help him up when he falls; who will laugh and have a good time with him; who will be there with encouragment and a hug when he needs it. Believing in God doesn't mean you don't need a father anymore. On the contrary, fathers and father-figures are vital to a young man's spiritual growth and maturity into adulthood.
It's just a matter of perspective, really. With either perspective, a teen needs a father-figure to teach him how to be successful as a man. The kind of father-figure JB needs in his life is going to teach him how to look at life through God's eyes, and see the dangers of this world coming before they sneak up and bite him when he least expects it.
