Two days ago, many sports fans did a double take when they saw ESPN NFL 2K5 listed at a $19.99 price point on EBgames.com and GameStop.com. However, at the time, officials from the game's developer, Visual Concepts, wouldn't officially confirm (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/sports/espnnflfootball2005/news_6100283.html) the new budget price, saying only, "We will have big announcements regarding the game soon."
Apparently "soon" meant "Friday." Today, EBgames.com is advertising the new $19.99 price point on its home page (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/default.asp) as "just announced." Sources within the retailer confirmed that "The $19.99 launch price for [the] Xbox and PS2 is official and has been confirmed by the publisher."
The price drop marks an aggressive move by ESPN NFL 2K5's publisher to win new football fans in the Madden NFL-dominated market. It also comes just days after Sega announced (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/sports/espnnflfootball2005/news_6100099.html) it had signed a deal with Take-Two Interactive to co-distribute the entire line of ESPN games, which it formerly published solo. However, since the agreement was technically between Sega and Global Star Software, Take-Two's budget game subsidiary, rumors of a price drop for the game were already widespread.
The "E" for Everyone-rated ESPN NFL 2K5 will be released on August 24 for the Xbox and PlayStation 2. For more information, read the brand-spanking-new preview (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/sports/espnnflfootball2005/preview_6100052.html) of the game by GameSpot's own Bob Colayco.

too bad, I think it's better, or at least equal to madden as I had both last year. They dropped the price to get hardcore madden fans to at least try it since it's cheap as hell. EA even sent out a survey asking how people would buy these games if both were the same price. I guess that could mean this is making EA at least think about dropping their price, but there's no point really since people will buy it regardless.
It's sad how people get a game because of the name value. The ESPN game is pretty damn nice and is a damn deal at 19.99.

I will officially buy both, but I was going to anyways... now they BOTH may be cheaper. Worst case scenario I'm still only paying around $70 as opposed to $100

Screw Madden...
Now I can get ESPN NFL & NCAA Football for about $70. That's the best two football games coming out this year. Not too shabby.
madden cant touch espn football. This will be the year people figure that out.

that's your opinion. I've thought that the 2k/espn game was better or at least up to madden last year. I had both and probably played madden twice, once to check out the hyped up owners mode. ESPN still had some flaws, but madden does as well. That comment was pointless, unless you meant in terms of sales, which would then be true..because madden sells on 6 systems (Xbox, PS2, PS1, GC, GBA, PC).
I will probably buy both also.

I've been doing some research on this game, and they've added a TON of features, and most of them look to really bring something new to video game football. It keeps track of your tendencies and the tendencies of other coaches/players online, and a multitude of online stat tracking so you can actually scout your online opponent. It has daily schedules that you can set so you can have each QB work on reading defenses for an hour on tuesday, reads and progressions for 2 hours on wednesday, etc. and you have so many hours you can allocate for many different tasks, and you have to strike a balance between team fatigue and team morale. I'm a Madden fanboy by any definition, I have a copy of madden for some system for every single year it's been made, but Sega looks to have the goods this year. There's a couple previews on www.teamxbox.com (http://www.teamxbox.com/) and xbox.ign.com that should give you the gist of what I'm talking about. The franchise mode looks incredibly detailed with the way stat tracking and tendency tracking is handled. I'm really stoked about this game, and I've never really cared much for the series except for the initial one on the dreamcast.
On Madden is there anyway in the settings where the actual gameplay looks like this? Only time I've ever seen it is on replays.

I was acutally referring to 2004, just used a screenshot from 05.
There's a rumor going around that ESPN 2k5 will be out at the end of July, beating Madden to market by 3 weeks (until EA gets wind of it and pushes Madden up.) 20 bux and coming out before Madden would get this title into a lot of homes and might actually start a real competition for next year. No matter how good it is, Sega needs the sales numbers to be better than last year.

Plus the later the football games come out the better. Makes the roster a little closer to being correct.

ESPN 2005 will be out July 20th. On XBOX, ESPN provides roster updates throughout the season via XBOX Live.

Absolutley. EA's agreement with XBOX does not exclude other vendors from releasing Live-related games. I believe MS dropped their in-house sports products because they couldn't hang with the Sega and EA line. Besides it makes good business sense for MS to allow as many online gaming options as possible since they make all the profits from the Live subscriptions.

July 20th is the exact date, which would in fact, be 3 weeks. Rosters are a moot point since both games support online play on both systems. If you don't have xbox live, you can pick up an action replay device and download the official rosters from various gaming websites.
Why would ESPN suddenly drop xbox live? EA joining in with XBL finally certainly doesn't imply exclusivity. I guess since MS has XBL support for Project Gotham Racing 2 that no other company can make a racing game with XBL support? Get real, dude. MS will give the SDK and tools to any developer that wants to add XBL support to any game, if that developer agrees to the terms. That's what took EA so long, they didn't agree to MS's terms, and they had to work out a special agreement, which is good for everyone involved. Xbox Live is a great service, and no matter what anyone wants to say about EA just rehashing the same old games, they do make great games.

The store i went to has a used Xbox for $99 with a controller and a game or two. The game itself comes with 2 free months of XBLive.
So $120 and you're GTG.
Hmmm, I can't afford the 50 bux for NCAA 2005 right now, but I *can* afford the 20 bux for this next week. I guess I'll get my football fix after all.
is this like madden where you actually get it earlier if you order online? i ususally get madden around a week before its out in stores.

I don't think so. The ship date is listed as 7/20 and the EBgames by my house said it will be in on 7/21.
