Gamespy/Gplay/any Netflix style service for video games

$20-22 per month for two games out at a time, which would be the equivalent of buying five games per year. I do get sick of games pretty quick, but in theory (never reality) I could resell them and get some of my money back and it might work out to about the same. I suppose I could also buy used games if I was looking to cut costs.

Does anyone use a Netflix style service for video games? I’m a huge Netflix (now Wal-mart) advocate for DVDs, but I’m not sure if this is as worthwhile.

i know a few people that use "red octane". they get a couple games at a time and when they're done, they send them back.

i would do something like that if i used my xbox more. perhaps i would use my xbox more if i did something like that. i don't like spending money on games that end up sucking or i end up finishing.

if you use your system, it's a great way to keep a fresh supply of games without worrying about getting crappy games. if they suck, just send em back.

I use redoctane for my PS2 and I really like it. I tend to beat a game in about a week or a little more which is just over the turnaround time for getting a new game, so I beat one, send it back and get a new one around the time that I'm tired of the other one. It ends up being 18.35 per month for two games at a time. They've also got a lot of games for all platforms.

Once in a while I'll find a game that seems like it'll take a long time to finish, or that I simply really like so I'll send it back and buy it. A couple of games kinda sucked though so they went back early. It's a good way to try before you buy, even if you don't end up buying many of them (make that especially if you don't end up buying many of them).

If you play a lot of games, it's worth it. If you don't, then it's not. If you keep a game for a couple of months you may as well have bought it. Like I said though, I keep mine for about a week and a half most of the time, that works out to about 3-5 games per month at $18.35, not a bad deal.


edit: forgot to add one cool thing about redoctane over some others out there. there have been a couple of times when a game got lost in the mail (or something) on its way to me (never on the way back). redoctane does not charge you for this. some others charge you the full value of the game (or more!!) if a game gets lost or broken, redoctane does not. be sure to check this before subscribing to a service.
