Assuming you knew of a place to download XBox games like for instance the StarWars battle Front for free, what hardware, or software would you need to burn them to what CDs or DVDs? Could you play these disc on XBox live? Assuming it was legal mind you

first this isn't legal, and google would be more of a help. To do it anyways, you'll need a modded xbox to read a cd-r if your drive can't already read them (there's 3 different drives MS uses), without that doing this is pointless. Xbox live can only tell if your xbox is modded, it can't tell anything about if your game is legit or not.
Some games are too big for CD-R's, so you can't copy every game. A bunch of the iso's have been raped, with certain movie files or music taken out to fit on a 700MB disk. Just use edonkey or something to get the iso's.
I use Alcohol 120% to burn DC games and it works great. I'm not sure about xbox games because I don't burn them.

i thought xbox used dvd's...
but anyway, there's also other stuff for the xbox hacking community that gets into using the internal hard drive to d/l the games directly from a pc over ethernet (i think you need to burn a program to disk and boot that disk). anyway, it's all moot unless you've got a modded xbox and modden xbox's get banned for life from xbox live (i believe).

it does, however xboxes can run on cd-r's when modded. It's just very difficult to fit DVD games onto them without taking out files. Sometimes the programmers waste space with dummy files and either don't use the full DVD or repeat media files two or three times to take up space in a sad effort to stop people from being able to copy the game. Some games have no choice but to go on multiple cd-r's...which is dumb.
If you mod the xbox and put in a bigger HDD, it's pretty easy to set up a FTP transfer thing to send games to the HDD.
The good modchips come with a swtich to turn it off, so you can play xbox live without getting banned.

bk covered most of it, but if you need to know anything else check here.

Like he said, you can't do anything without an mod chip which will run you about $50. After that, you will need either a DVD burner or a bigger hard drive to put in the xbox. (Some games are ripped to fit on a CD, but a lot of stuff will be missing). I reccomend going with the bigger HD because it is easy to erase games you don't play to make room for new ones. Games also load a lot faster from the HD than from a aDVD.
i read where some people were getting their xbox to read a certain brand of cd-r without any mods.

you probably can, people toy around with the laser all the time. I know you can do it with the dreamcast if it already can't read cd-r's. I just wouldn't do it that way. Better off to go the modchip route than ruin an good xbox.
I THINK IT WAS SOME OF THE SAMSUNG DRIVES THAT WERE ABLE TO READ CD-R. dammit...It has been a few months since i read that so im not 100% sure

Some of the drive will play CDRs, but you have to have a mod chip. The mod chip is what enables you to play unsigned code and that has nothing ot do with the laser or dvd drive.
There are some work arounds you can do with audio exploits and whatnot that allow you to effectivley "mod" your xbox withough actually installing a chip. But in one form or another, the xbox has to be modded to be able to play downloaded games.

the only console that let you play cd-r's out of the box is the dreamcast.
As for the xbox exploits. I was gonna do it for mine, but got the wrong version of agent under fire. It seems MS figured it out and released this shitty game as a platinum hit for an excuse to update it. now you can't do the exploit with that version, have to get an old one. Plus the new dashboard prevents it from happening, and there's no way to revert back really.

I don't know much about the exploits, but I think there are other games you can use as well (MechAssault maybe?). in any case, it sounds like it would be easier to just get a mod chip. I have a matrix no solder chip which was pretty easy to install. You can do a lot of cool things with it after it is modded. I use mine more as a media player for mp3s (through the surround sound) and divx/xvid movies than for gaming.
