COol. I've got two interior walls that I want covered with brick. There's a concrete slab under the hardwoods. Is it possible? How much? 8' tall. one 20' long. One 12' long.

to answer you quickly, yes, its possible. pretty much just need to take 4 and a half inches of hardwood for the the wall to sit on the concrete.

have to do some figuring on price. get back with ya in a minute.

you have any windows on those walls?

no windows. And I want two "pilasters" built in the long wall. One at the end, one near the center. One wall has a single outlet. The other has phone, cable, and two electrical outlets.

I don't care how it's done. Brick and concrete at least 3" thick has an STC rating of 80.

I'm gonna paint the brick. I've got an idea going here. Urban loft type thing while eliminating my noise problem downstairs.

Come on man. I'll pay you on the side to do it yourself. Evenings, weekends, whatever. Cash in your pocket.

Can you get (can't remember the name) bricks that look like they're really really old?

I had a feeling you might react like that. Is it OK if he paints the brick, then sandblasts it for a weathered/worn effect?

no, painting is just plain wrong.

Or if it were concrete block. The 3" thick type. I'd leave that natural. I know there are some really cool types and colors and things that I would go for.

Fine. Assuming I will not paint it. What would my cost be?

you can pretty much get any brick you want, or pick an old style you like and match it up to something made now. the options are almost endless.

its gonna be more expensive than you might think tho. we rarely supply our own brick, mortar, and sand, as the contractors mostly have everything on the lot for us, but here are some estimates.

brick range anywhere from around $250-$400 per thousand depending on what style you go with. i figured just over 1800 with the dimensions you gave, so you'd need 2000. mortar is around $6 or $7 a bag, and it would take around 16 bags. sand, to be honest, i have no clue how much it is.

then, for labor, another $1000-$1500, mostly depending on how far we would have to carry the brick and mortar, since we can't exactly drive the lift through a townhome. the columns you wish for, would run about $20 a foot.

but if you really are painting, then i may not be interested. we do too good of work to have it covered up. besides, painting brick is ghetto.

builder, they make a 4" block. they also make textured block, which you've probably seen on signs or privacy walls on many sub-divisions. not sure if they make a 4" textured block tho. i know they make 8 and 12 inch, but 4", not so sure.

Given some of your hobbies and mental status, combined with your wish to make the place quieter, I'm thinking a padded wall is your best bet. Mark can probably hook you up and 26 won't be offended if you add paint or graphics.

If you add resilient channel and another layer of sheet rock you will bumb your STC from a 39 to more than 52. It would be around 60 due to the double sheetrock. This option will run you a little more than $1.20 a sf and not cause your electrician to run a new line. You electric outlets don't have an extra 5 inches of line in them, but I'm sure you could get an extension cover that would extend 1". The resilient and sheetrock = 1"
