View Full Version : Finally, an answer...
I've been complaining about my weight gain and I've been sorta depressed. Well, I just got back from the Dr. and I have Hypo-Thyroid. I knew there was something else going on since I don't eat like a pig.:D
Anyway, DH and I joined a fitness center and we go for our orientation today at 5. There's hope for me yet!

That thyroid gland can really keep you confused. Good luck on the fitness center thing.

Good luck Lainey. My roommate's cat had the opposite. A HYPERthyroid gland. He ate and ate but never gained any weight. Trust me, that cat was nasty.
Lainey- did he put you on Synthroid or Levothorixine? HYPOthyroidism will make you depressed, gain weight, a massive case of dry skin, cold natured and irritable as hell.

Lack of thyroid hormone.
Its usually your own immune system that causes the swelling of the thyroid gland and that does the damage.

what causes HYPOthyroidism ? Putt's right- some people's thyroid doesn't make enough thyroxine. Just like diabetics pancreas doesn't make enough insulin.

Levothroid.
Fred, I had no idea the symptoms that are caused by hypothyroidism. Thank goodness for the internet! I came home and started researching and the symptoms list read like a "this is your life". The worst part is the decreased libido! LOL!
Seriously, I feel like I have been in some sort of hell for the last 9 months or so. I've been gaining weight for no apparent reason. I've been so irritable - it is like I know I'm irritable but I just could not help myself. And God forbid that I sit still at work...I fall asleep.:)
Sounds like things are looking up now! Just make sure you follow up getting the TSH drawn like they schedule you. They may have to increase or decrease the dosage for a while till they find out exactly what dose you need. Glad you found it when you did- hypothyroidism left untreated long term can cause the shutdown of some organs and seizures.
