I made a decision. Yeah, yeah, you say. We've heard this before. But I really have. I'm gonna quit smoking. If Putt can do it, I can too. I'm spending way too much money, about $125/month. I feel like shit most of the time. And I stink. I smell it when I go to bed. I smell it when I wake up. And I smell it at work even though I only smoke during my lunch break. Anybody got any advice?

And props to Putt, for sticking to it!
If I kicked my habit cold-turkey, I know you can conquer yours...

I still smoke, but I've never smoked a great deal. More when I drink. I don't smoke until after work, and then only a few. I must say too that Salem's don't smell nearly as bad as say Winston's or Marlboro's. If they stopped making menthols, I'd stop. Plus at home my wife and I only smoke outside.
Good luck to you! And try not to gain any weight! The hardest part is trying to find something else to put in your mouth.

Be careful saying that. A lot of good men have went astray trying to do some of the things I have done. :D

The main thing is I can smell stuff now which I am finding out ain't too good. I breathe much better already and I don't snore anymore. I think my sex life has improved also. I really have no way of telling but I feel like it has. :)
I was smoking 2 packs a day and sometimes starting on my 3rd. I haven't been smoking that long but it was really getting out of hand. I haven't really been eating more like I thought I would. I am considering increasing my beer consumption though. But I would have probably done that whether I quit smoking or not. :D
You can do it Builder !!!!!!!!! You da Man !!!!!

Go for it Builder! Around midnight my hubby and I will be on day 10 of no cigs. We were tired of smelling bad, not tasting much of anything and the money was crazy. Almost 4 bucks a day each, close 240.00 a month! In the last week of no cigs I can smell things, taste food much better and I have some cash in my pockets!
I decided to just quit, no weening, no nothing. I get by one 'craving' at a time. When I get the craving for a cig, I think about it, the smell, the cost, how my chest feels and how I must reek to everyone around me. By the time I think of those things, the craving is past. This gets to be a habit it seems and now when I crave, it doesnt last more than 3 seconds or so. I feel great not always looking for my cigs and lighter, not dragging them everywhere I go.
You can do it!!!!!!! I'm pulling for you:D

It most absolutely can be done. I stopped cold turkey as well. I've smoked now and again since, mostly when I drank. It's a nasty habit and there is not one positive thing about smoking a cigarette. Your lungs will begin to heal immediately after you stop smoking.
Good luck to all of you!
Don't worry builder. Just get me drinking and I'll smoke them all for you.

Wheres that dog pic at ?
jamie and i started buying drums of american spirit about a year ago and rolling our own. took th $ total from around $180 a month to about $12. american spirits don't really smell bad. it's weird. it must be all the chemicals that make them so stinky. i'm not ready to quit yet. good luck to you. damn, i've quit coke, weed, alcohol, and all the others, but i think cigs is harder than any of that. y'all who are doing it are really something.

lmao....DUH
You can do it!!! If you really really want to....a hypnotist can help. I know...ya'll will say it is bs. But.... it works if you REALLY WANT to stop....if you don't...it won't. My Mom and sister just recently quit....about 8 months ago...and they have no desire to start again...it really helps getting the suggestions from the hypnotist...it's worth the $$....about what you'd pay for one month's smokes. :)
Good Luck!!

I just read this. The thing to do (kind of like p2k1f said) is focus on the money. $125.00 a month is $1500.00 in a year. You know what you can buy with that? I am a smoker, but I only smoke when I drink, and not much then. I smoke about 2 packs a month, which is about $6.00 a month, $72.00 a year. But if you can't cut way back, then $1500.00 can get you a decent computer, a couple of TV's, or a kickass vacation every year. It still won't be easy, but might be easier. :)

I didn't touch one for two years and started back again. Damn that was dumb.
When I quit, I took myself skydiving for not smoking in three months.

so............. what's your story fred??????????
To be honest, I've never puffed on a smoke - ever. I was never impressed by them, their smell, their cost, their taste (from what I could gather from the smell). Plus, many women that I've kissed who smoked most certainly did have a tobacco taste in their lips and mouth.
I certainly don't mind anyone else smoking if they want - but its not for me.

CONGRATS BUILDER !
I've been saying that I am going to do it too, and now I am gonna do it.
A while back, it was quit the smokes or quit the booze; I haven't had a drop since July 27th, 1997.
It was pretty tough, but not that bad, cause I still had my Marlboro's :)...
But, thinking about it, it's important to stay healthy, and cigarettes are close to six bucks a pack...
Time to quit!
Good luck Builder!
