Everybody gets into full action this week as basketball season begins. Here are the upcoming games this week for the NW4A...

Mitchell @ McDowell
Erwin @ AC Reynolds
Hickory @ Alex. Central
West Caldwell @ East Burke
Fred T. Foard @ South Caldwell
Watauga @ Ashe County

NOTE: Freedom/Providence was a last minute addition. Freedom needed an extra game after the game two days ago @ Burns was not made up. Thoughts, opinions on these upcoming games...

It should be a good test for East Burke. I know West Caldwell lost their coach but they should still be pretty good.

Quiet honestly I just don't know much about the Hickory area teams. So I can't comment about those games. However, I don't see McDowell having any trouble with Mitchell, nor do I see AC Reynolds having much problems this week with Erwin. As for Watuaga, well I am taking a shot and saying they win a close one. I really know nothing much about them or Ashe County either, but I thought I would take a stab at it! Maybe someone else could talk about the Freedom matchups with Providence and West Caldwell. I would say Freedom goes 2-0, but I am not sure about those two teams, so help me out!
I will be suprised it the Watauga/Ashe game is close. I predict Watauga to win big. Mcdowell and ACR Win easily as well. SC, EB and Freedom should have some good competition this week. EB and Freedom will have a tough game against West Caldwell. I see Freedom winning in a close one and EB losing in a close one. EB will dominate Hibriten again. AC will get to see where they stand against Hickory.
Good luck to all conference teams!

Ashe is quick but small but unless Watauga is having some problems they should be fine; you are right the game for AC will give them a very good indication of where they stand.
How did the scrimmage go with AC and Ashe Co? Heard that it was pretty ugly. AC looked pretty good against Wilkes Central.

They scrimmaged back in the summer and from what I remember it was not close; inside game wore Ashe down with just a height and weight advantage; the scrimmage last week which AC won (it was an ugly offensive game for both teams 29-20 if you add the 4 quarter scores) reminded me of last year; we went to Ashe and played them like the first or second game and AC was not ready for them and Ashe ran them to death; I think AC has gotten their offense straightened out since the Wilkes game and hopefully will look like they did this summer when things clicked along; we shall see!
First game for Amber Fox at Freedom, from what I have seen Amber has those girls playing the team concept. They move the ball much better than in previous years, there also seems to be chemistry between players and players/coach. Going on the road to Providence is a good early test for the Lady Patriots. Providence is a middle to lower tier team in the Charlotte area, so I think if Freedom can be patient and find the good looks at the basket, they can come out with a win.
On tuesday, I look for McDowell to open with a bang. From what I have seen, this team is a team on a mission. It will get ugly in Marion tomorrow night. Reynolds and Watauga should also have relative ease tomorrow. Got no clue on FT Foard but I would be suprised if South Caldwell dosen't win at home. East Burke/West Caldwell and Hickory/Alex. Central are the two games that should be the closest. Hickory always puts a competitive team on the floor and we should see if Alex. Central has stepped it up a knotch. East Burke/West Caldwell could very well be a dogfight to the end. I would give slight advantage to the home team.
on Wednesday, East Burke should blow Hibriten out again. West Caldwell/Freedom will be another good game to watch. These two schools don't exactly love each other, this matchup is usually close and very intense. My plans as of now is to attend this game on Wednesday.

I am asking....NO BEGGING, that everyone please post all scores when they become final. Up here in Asheville we usually don't get any of the NW4A scores with the exception of McDowell, and we don't always get those. So please help me out not only with the girl but guys scores as well throughout the year! Thanks!!
