The fact that the advertised car has ZERO options and will never be in stock, anywhere.

So you want to pay 3 large just for the privilege of giving them 300 a month to dive a stripped down BMW that isn't any bigger than an Accord?

just got off the phone with Hendricks on Independence, they have a black one in stock...power everything except the seats and the transmission, sunroof, CD player, and leather synthetic seats...

it's actually $3,500 due at signing and with tax works out to $307/month

Boo

You’d be better off to buy it on a home equity line of credit.

she hates the van, she's getting a new car anyway...going from a minivan to any '05 BMW should be a good thing

buy one a year or two old and own the thing. Ive never understood why anyone would rent a car that you can only drive 12,000 miles a year. thats 32 miles a day. I couldnt even drive it to work everyday. I'd have to take the bus one day a week and park it on the weekends.

even if you do lease it...that payment information is based on paying full sticker. paying anything more than dealer invoice is foolish. they should also tell you what interest rate you are getting...mileage allowance....etc.

a lot of times leases sound good on the surface...then when the lease is over, you have to buy for a hell of a lot more than it is worth because you've put too many miles on it which cost $$$.

y2b
12-23-04, 10:00 AM
yeah, I'm so not into leasing...but by the time you pay on something 3 years to own, you'd be lucky to not be upside down in it

You'll be upside down on this if you go over miles or scratch it.

NOt suggesting anything, just FYI.

If you bough a 2 year old Accord with $3500 down, I don't see you being upside down.

You could spend $300 a month on an Accord or anything else just as easy. Might as well drive something a little nicer. I thought about getting an X3 with a similar deal as this. In the end, I'm just not a lease person. In another few months, I may buy one. I'm going to pit the X3 salesman against a Toyota 4Runner salesman, and if I can get the X3 for just a bit more than the 4Runner, I may take it.

If the $300 dollar a month payment is what you like…buy it on a home equity line that is based on 30 years. Better yet, buy a one year old used one.

You’ll be paying probably less than $50/month towards interest and $250 month towards principal. This way you are paying it off faster than it is depreciating. A lot of people get screwed in these 5 or 6 years loans because they want a new car after 3 years but the car isn’t worth what is owed on the loan…so they do the brilliant maneuver or putting the negative equity in the new car.

black one's gone...they have a grey almost the same, but automatic...$3,500 at signing, $329/month tax included....10,000 miles a year...lease end value is $20k

I told him I wasn't going over $300/month and to buy more miles, + $20/month to get to 12,000 miles, but near $400/month to get to 15k miles...

I see Santa Clause going to Dick's Sporting Goods and looking at winter coats

plus...the interest on a home equity line is tax decuctible...

Leasing a vehicle is for business. Buy a 3 year old BMW and finance it over 4 years. If you've got $3000 to put against a car you'll never own, you damn sure have it for one you can drive the shit out of. I can't stomach that - $3000 to pay just so you can have a lower lease payment. What a racket.

go put $3k down on a $32k car and see what kind of payment you can get...

For one, you shop around.
And two, you're talking about driving a two year old BMW, best case scenario. That makes the above car $23k, or $24150 if you get a generous 5% loan somewhere.

that's about $500 a month. $400 if you go 5 years. Which leaves you, in five years, with a $15,000 car.

But if you really want to rush into it, and throw $3000 at them just to make a payment you'll never get anything back on? I can't stop you.
Shit's like a PSL. Forcing you to pay for the right to consume their goods and have nothing at the end.

So they've already gone up $500 on the down payment and $30 a month?

Or here's one for 19,9...

http://www.hendrickauto.com/car/car_details.asp?VehiclesId=9466

let's say you can get that down to 19 even, and then put your $3k on it.
4 year loan, $350/month.

I'm not defending a lease...I've leased once, but it was a special situation...

but to answer question, the advantage of a lease, drive an '05 for $300/month or drive an '01 for $350...plus with the warranty and the free maintenance plan on the '05...

magnus
12-23-04, 06:16 PM
sure. I'm not saying it's totally stupid. But you get nothing for your effort in the end. They call it "living above your means", no offense. I can't afford a BMW and I pay $350/mo on my Spyder. But I've paid it down to where it's worth more than the loan, and in two years I'll own it.

Leasing sucks. Paying someone elses payments. Buy a 2-3 year old one and actually drive it to work instead of having to try to keep the miles down

y2b
12-23-04, 07:20 PM
shit man, my '98 Blazer is $167/month...I owe like $2k on it...needs tires & brakes right now, but it's a 4x4 and gets me where I want to go

the BMW was just a thought...my Mom sells cars and I really would never set out to lease a car, but I'm just saying, the deal they had on tv was tempting

Agreed. Why anyone would ever lease a car is beyond me.

magnus
12-23-04, 08:41 PM
Y2, we're just trying to advise you that the lease isn't the way to go. It just screams of impulse buy. You just got into a house, you drive a beater truck and she has a minivan. And that's ok. if you really feel like you need a newer car, go for it. But you know as well as I do that new cars have markup like nothing else, and that you'd probably be pissing money away on a status symbol. If you gotta do something, get into a 3 year old car and drive the shit out of it.

y2b
12-23-04, 08:44 PM
I hear ya, but I still might lease the deal in the commercial if it was available...hell, she was leasing when I dated her and I told her to say goodbye to leasing if we get married :D

PantherPaul
12-23-04, 09:21 PM
Car leases are for people that want to drive more car than they can afford. Don't do it. You'll be throwing your money away and have nothing to show for it in 3 years. Except for a bill for the over miles
