Baseball America has released their pre-season poll and there are a couple of surprises:

7. South Carolina (53-17)
14. North Carolina (43-21)
25. Winthrop (37-23)
29. College of Charleston (47-16)
35. Virginia (44-15)
36. Clemson (39-26)

Tulane leads Conference USA, ranked 1st pre-season.
Miami leads the ACC, ranked 5th pre-season.
LSU leads the SEC, ranked 2nd pre-season.
Winthrop leads the Big South, ranked 25th.
College of Charleston leads the Socon, ranked 29th.

There are some real differences between this poll and the Collegiate Baseball poll. Most surprising to me is the lack of respect Virginia is getting after their great season last year.

Collegiate Baseball poll:
7. North Carolina (43-21)
8. South Carolina (53-17)
21. Clemson (39-26)
27. Virginia (44-15)
28. Winthrop (37-23)
32. East Carolina (51-13)
34. Coastal Carolina (40-23)

Baseball America must not be convinced that UNC can hit, because everyone knows they can pitch. College of Charleston is missing, replaced by Coastal Carolina ... that gives the Big South 2 teams in the top 40 according to Collegiate Baseball. East Carolina shows up in the CB poll but is gone from the BA poll.

Hmmmm. I'm not convinced about Clemson this season... Kris Harvey (Bandys) can't carry that team and they are pretty young. East Carolina lost a lot. Georgia Tech may not be competitive this year ...

It's going to be a fun season !!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I like the players at UNC, until they can beat USC, I don't think they should be ranked ahead of them. The Gamecocks go after the top Juco players in the nation that are already developed. UNC is very talented...but young. Plus they must prove they can hit the ball to make it to the CWS.

Georgia is ranked at #10 and I really think this is low. We made it to the semifinals of the college world series, and we lose our #3 pitcher and our shortstop and everyone else returns. We will be extremely deep and Josh Morris can absolutely crush the ball. Set the Georgia records for HomeRuns and RBI's for a freshman. Can't wait to go to the games this year, and every single one of them is free. What a country

Was looking at the pre-season All American teams as listed by the Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association and comparing it to the Baseball America teams. Wow, what a difference. Daniel Bard is 3rd team on the CBWA and 1st team on BA. Dan Carte of Winthrop, 1st team by BA, isn't even listed by the CBWA. The nominees of the two groups aren't even similar.
