Baseball America has released their pre-season poll and there are a couple of surprises:
7. South Carolina (53-17)
14. North Carolina (43-21)
25. Winthrop (37-23)
29. College of Charleston (47-16)
35. Virginia (44-15)
36. Clemson (39-26)
Tulane leads Conference USA, ranked 1st pre-season.
Miami leads the ACC, ranked 5th pre-season.
LSU leads the SEC, ranked 2nd pre-season.
Winthrop leads the Big South, ranked 25th.
College of Charleston leads the Socon, ranked 29th.
There are some real differences between this poll and the Collegiate Baseball poll. Most surprising to me is the lack of respect Virginia is getting after their great season last year.
Collegiate Baseball poll:
7. North Carolina (43-21)
8. South Carolina (53-17)
21. Clemson (39-26)
27. Virginia (44-15)
28. Winthrop (37-23)
32. East Carolina (51-13)
34. Coastal Carolina (40-23)
Baseball America must not be convinced that UNC can hit, because everyone knows they can pitch. College of Charleston is missing, replaced by Coastal Carolina ... that gives the Big South 2 teams in the top 40 according to Collegiate Baseball. East Carolina shows up in the CB poll but is gone from the BA poll.
Hmmmm. I'm not convinced about Clemson this season... Kris Harvey (Bandys) can't carry that team and they are pretty young. East Carolina lost a lot. Georgia Tech may not be competitive this year ...
It's going to be a fun season !!!!!!!!!!!
