Greensboro, get ready for the 3rd Annual “North Carolina Scholastic Classic.” Top high school and prep teams from the Southeast will invade the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center on January 17, 2005 (Martin Luther King Day) for the best in amateur hoops.
Tickets for the North Carolina Scholastic Classic” will go on sale Monday, November 29th at 10:00 AM and may be purchased at the Greensboro Coliseum advance box office, at Tickets.com outlets at participating Triad Area Lowes Foods locations, online at www.tickets.com or by calling Tickets.com toll free at 888-397-3100. Tickets are $10.00 and seating is general admission.
Want to get an early look at the future collegiate and professional stars of tomorrow? The NC Scholastic Classic will feature over 20 Division I basketball prospects including the No. 1 ranked prep player in the nation, 6’1” guard Louis Williams of South Gwinnett (GA). Williams, who is considering the University of Georgia if he does not leap directly to the NBA, is paired in the backcourt with 6’3” Mike Mercer, another top 10 ranked player.
Williams’ and Mercer’s skills will be put to the test against Oak Hill, the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Oak Hill finished last year with a 38-0 record, winning by an incredible average of 32.5 points per game. Oak Hill is led by 6’3” combo guard Eric Devendorf, who is headed to Syracuse University, and 6’8” Kevin Durant, one of the top 5 ranked juniors in the nation.
The line-up for the 2005 Classic also includes Greensboro Day kicking things off against Southern Alamance, Southwest Guilford taking on Glenn and top 5 freshman phenom Eric Wallace, and local powerhouse Bishop McGuiness tangling with Page.
The finale of the five-game 2005 Classic will feature Dudley versus RJ Reynolds in what should be a hotly contested battle for local bragging rights. Dudley will look to future Wake Forest signee Kevin Swinton, a 6’7” 230-pound power forward, and highly touted swingman William Graves to lead the Panthers to victory.

In its first year (2003), the North Carolina Scholastic Classic brought future NBA superstar LeBron James to the Triad, drawing a crowd of 16,220, a North Carolina state record for a high school basketball game. Last year’s outstanding line-up featured Oak Hill’s Josh Smith, a future Atlanta Hawks first-round draft pick.
