Softball takes sweep over St. Andrews

LAURENBURG, NC -- Catawba outlasted host St. Andrews 3-1 in a 10-inning marathon Sunday then rolled to a 12-3 win in the nightcap to sweep the Knights in softball action at Knights Field. The Lady Indians improved to 2-2, while St. Andrews falls to 0-6.


The Lady Indians exploded for eight runs on eight hits in the second inning of the nightcap and never looked back. The inning featured two run homers by Phelps and Lacey Waldroop (Franklin, N.C.) and an RBI triple by Shannon Handy (Advance, N.C.).



Shelton and Waldroop went 3-for-3 for their respective teams. Handy (1-1) picked up the win, while Mason (0-3) had four strikeouts in the loss.

Paul, you have to let me post my DD's own games first.... :rofl: I mean it was her first game....Were you there? Next game is saturday against Francis Marion in Florence.

In case anybody thought I was mad at Paul for posting his scores on the Mars Hill/USC UPstate game then I want to go on record here that I appreciate Paul and all he does. I was just poking fun at him for beating me to the punch and we all owe a lot to him for his dedication. Again, sorry if I was misunderstood. Thanks Brian

Game 2:Taylor Queen hit an out of the park homerun in the bottom of the the 5th inning with one on. Taylor had 3 RBI's for the game. The game was tied going into the bottom of the 7 inning. With a runner on 2nd Brooke Starnes got a hit to drive in the winning run. I would say the girls from St. Stephens HS had a good day.

Close game all the way with Greensboro scoring 1 run in the 1st inning. Shenandoah tied the game with 1 run in the 5th inning. Game went to extra innings with Shenandoah scoring 1 run in the top of the 8th inning. Greensboro answered with 1 run in the bottom of the 8th. Shenandoah failed to score in the top of the 9th. Greensboro scored in the bottom of the 9th to win. Great game!
