I'm also a Chris
I'm 26
I'm an engineer who's currently laid off
I've been married 4 months
It's been 2.5 years since I made a red cent off music, and 5 years since I've made an honest dime off football. I never want to have to hustle like a drug dealer to make my living, but I really miss being that sort of hungry, where success was directly defined by how the ball bounced and my effort/talent.
I've been sought by people here, including offers to travel. I've been hated for mindless reasons. I've been here more of the last three years and three days than I really want to admit, and that's probably something I'll have to give up soon.
I miss Charlotte. But I really don't want to move back.
I feel kinda stupid for having put this in bullets.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a 15-year-old French prostitute, named Chloe, with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He made outrageous claims, like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.
My childhood was typical—summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we’d make meat helmets. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds. Pretty standard really. At the age of 12, I received my first scribe. At the age of 14, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicals. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum. It’s breathtaking. I suggest you try it.

married for nearly 21 years
2 kids - daughter 11 and son 5. Both are already people I admire
Took me a long time to find a "career"
I've been in TV production of some sorts for 10 years
Worked in Restaurant Management, Retail Management, Bakery Goods Sales Supervisor, CBT Author & Political campaigns prior to finding TV
Hosted 2 different public affairs local cable shows for a combined 6 years
I used to want to be a writer and have the rejection letters to show for it. Still have some stories I want to tell. Just have to find a medium to do it in.
I'm far to the left in my politics but a realist in how the world works
I'm a non-believer in most things religious but see the positives that religion can offer to some
Dislike "True Believer" thought of any religious or political stripe
Generally tolerant of others but have an irrational hatred of hard core Racists/Klan/Ayran Brotherhood types that dates to my childhood
I'm too judgemental of those that follow without truly thinking
Was recruited by a bunch of crappy small schools to play football
I was on food stamps as a kid and have spent a few nights on the streets as an adult
Punched the Reset button on my life 10 years ago this March and have been much happier and functional ever since

~ i have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a bunch of fishies.
~don't laugh, i sew a little and i am currently making 4 quilts out of all of the clothing from a loved one who has passed away. it took me way too long to get the currage to cut up her clothing but her grandchildren will hold pieces of her forever with these quilts.
~ i didn't start drinking until i was 31 years old
~ i have never smoked anything in my life - never.
~ i have way more sex than any of my friends but i do not think it is masking a problem in my life. i am close to accepting i might just be a nympho and leave it at that. there are times i blame this on the red hair.

~ i do not curse in real life nearly as much as any of you think i do.
~ i like this thread, vito made me laugh.
~ it is almost 3am, i suffer from insomnia and have for almost 6 years. there are times i go on 2 hours sleep a night for a week or more before it hits ma and i crash.

As a mother to a 10 year old son I cannot imagine what feelings you must be going through in reguards to your son being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Maybe you can try to find a support group for parents that have children with juvenile diabetes. Sometimes it helps to be able to talk with and get advice from others who are going through the same thing. Anyway I wish you and your family all the best.

I was on my way to a music degree, then I decided I'd rather to television. I regret that about once a year, normally around Christmas when I hear some beautiful choral arrangements.
yeah I played brass-tinged baroque for the Christmas season from the 10th grade on (granted I don't play a brass instrument) and I've missed it the last three years.
My parents didn't want my sister to get a music degree - consequently after five major changes, she never got one (was still successful before she started her family). I got full support to go take music, and just didn't want to. Did a lot of what I wanted to do anyway, just going out playing and being in bands.

I studied at Appalachian state (don't underestimate the school... it has the best music school in the state in my opinion)
I play the saxophone as my main instrument. I dabble on some of the other woodwind instruments (flute clarinet) but they aren't my favorite. I also can play Irish style music on a tin whistle. I hope to buy an Irish flute one day and play in an Irish group. I also own a theremin (an early electronic musical instrument where you hover your hands around two antennae).
Things suck right now, but I don't regret my choice. I'll get a teaching gig next school year I'm sure.
I should really get motivated and get some of my work published.

which sax? My main's baritone, from my funk/R&B days.
Yeah, something will come, you just gotta be willing to move around for that type job.

That's the shitty thing about going music in college, it takes two or three semesters just to officially be able to do what you've been doing all your life.
well some people may have done it all their life, but suck at it. haha

Alto mainly, I played the baritone in the top ensemble at App for one semester. It was fun honking out Gerswin bass lines that used the low A everywhere.

well ASU profs talk shit about UNCG. I don't know the deal? (however a lot of professors have left UNGC to teach at App)

always loved my low A in high school, but once I bought my own vintage w/o the low A, just a more powerful horn. The main problem I've had is that I can't decide between tenor and alto as a supplement. I don't like either that much.

strangely enough, you'll have an easier time with alto... a tenor player is strictly a tenor player

I found alto and bari to be more alike and going from bari to alto easier, because of the pitch, I reckon. Tenor, besides the pitch, responds differently than the other two. I play tenor exclusively now, but, I can double on alto if I'm coerced or bribed properly, but I don't like to(play alto).
I don't either. Being keyed the same doesn't hold much weight for me, it's not that hard to transpose in my head.

I found it disconcerting at first, when I first jumped to tenor, finding that the same fingering sounded a different pitch.

.....oh, nevermind. :laugh1:
all in all, glad I split this thread.
I have that '48 10M and the Lawton, but it just doesn't speak the way I want. Granted this Lawton's dark and smaller, where I'm used to the ballsy, bright, big sound on the bari, so I might be able to remedy, but I can't find anyone looking to swap for a bigger Lawton
If I could get that, I could tear that 10M up. Right now it just sits and I want to sell it.
