I do not know the score, but EBHS defeated ACHS....my daughter was there and it sounded like a 15 or so point win for the Cavs.

Freedom beat McDowell by four points tonight, don't remember exact score. Freedom did have a 14 point lead with under 2 minutes to go and McDowell had it down to a 2 point game with 9.6 secs to go.

I thought that Freedom's coach just about lost this game for his team. He just made some decisions during the final 2 minutes of the game that were stupid. For example, with 8.1 seconds remaining in the game and Freedom up by 4, MHS calls a timeout. The Titans come out to inbounds the ball under Freedoms goal. We put 1 player at half court and the other 3 underneath our goal. When the Titans line up in this formation - Freedom's coach acts as if he does not know what is going on and has players wondering also. Everyone in the stands knew that the Titans were going to throw the long baseball pass to one of our big guys underneath the goal and we did. The only bad part was we could not hit the easy layup. Anyway, it was a good come back by MHS and Freedom done a good job of hitting free throws when they needed to.

I thought the refs done a terrible job in both games tonight. I figured the NW4A would try to put the best refs on the floor during the tournament. I know they are better refs out there somewhere. They made some bad calls all night against all 4 teams. REACHING IN call was no where to be found. One call i'd never seen before was when a Freedom player got a rebound and as MHS has him in a double team he throws an elbow. A whistle blows and the ref says that it is the Titans ball. However, the ref does not call a foul. Instead of a foul he said that it was a violation. Never seen that call before. I assumed that if you gave Titans the ball then a foul would have to be called. I'm curious to see which refs will be doing the championship games friday night.

I glad someone else has some problems with the officiating in this area. The same elbow "violation" was called in the ACHS vs ACR girls game on Monday. I like everyone else was expecting a foul, but the ball was just given to ACR like you described above. I have read something on an officials forum about this kind of violation but it has not sunk in with me yet. Oh by the way, according to this same officials forum, there is no such thing as reaching in unless there is contact and even then if it is incidental contact it is ignored?!?!? (I think I am going to have to have some more coffee) The forum is www.officialforum.com and there are different threads for different sports. It makes for some interesting reading, especailly when they talk about the things that us fans yell, the rules we do not understand, and what some coaches don't know (which I hope to be one of those again before too long, a coach that is...).

I remember that "violation" in the ACHS/ACR girls game and I was confused as well about the call. I really didn't want to complain about the officials because I didn't want people to think it was because our guys lost last night, but MAN I am gald others see it as well! I have noticed it in other games also. I wish there was a way for them to be reviewed by the NCHSAA and graded on their preformance. In our guys game with SC in the first half SC shot 23 foul shot to our 6, and for the game they shot 45 to our 17. :teeth: Something just isn't right there!

Dont remember the exact number Monday night but seems like ACR was called for 7 fouls, all night....and again if you go to that officals forum they will talk about people fussing because the fouls are not evenly called....oh well, not much to say or do....I would like to get ahold of the assignors in this area about 3 official in particular....but that is for another day!... :xyzthumbs

I am not here to say we got all the calls or not, however, I do remember your team was in the 1 and 1 in the second half so I know we had 7 fouls in the second half! :laugh1: However it will make you feel better to know our guys paid for it the next night as SC shot more foul shots 23 in the first half then we did the whole game. You are right though, something isn't right in our area.... :xyzthumbs

We were?..must have missed that...oh well, no biggie....I also have a theory about the assigning of officials to high school games, at least in our area, but of course I am sure it would be disputed by those that make the decisions.

Yeah, I know the book keeper for us, and I asked to make sure. Anyway, I have a feeling I know about your theory as well.....

Does your theory involve the actual schools playing and their sport history?

HEY GUYS HERE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. A PLAYER SHALL NOT EXCESSIVELY SWING THE ELBOW EVEN WITHOUT CONTACTING A OPPENT. PENTLY THE BALL IS DAED WHEN THE VIOLATION OCCORS AND THE BALL IS AWARDED TO THE OPPONENTS FOR A THROW IN FROM A DESIGNED OUT OF BOUND SPOT NEAREST THE VIOLATION! I REF HIGH SCHOOL GAMES AND THIS IS A HARD CALL TO MAKE! I HOPE THIS HELP, ITS STRAIGHT OUT OF THE 2004-2005 RULES BOOK.(PAGE 59 SECTION 13):xyzthumbs

Thanks jvcoach...from what I have seen, most of the kids called for this violation probably would not be swinging the elbows to hold their ground if the defenders were not hanging on them....but that is my biased view from the stands....hopefully I will get a better look from courtside soon enough...
