McDowell 67
Reynolds 63
The entire game long, both teams did not quit and were not to be denied, but like the last game, McDowell hit key free throws to seal the win. Both teams hit amazing shots, but Briana Worley and Amanda Whittaker missed key shots with less than 1:00 remaining that could have won the game for the Lady Rockets. Instead, McDowell rebounds the misses and proceeds to hit the big, game-winning free throws.

What about the play of freshman K. Greene. She hit some huge 3's going down the stretch. That reminds me of when Anna was a freshman. Lets just hope Greene continues to improve and we all look forward to seeing her play for 3 more years. Akendra had another great game and i'm glad to see her get some much needed recognition. Anna comes up with a key steal at the end of the game. It looks like to me that Emily will not recover from her ankle injury this year. I hate this for her and the team. She has put in 4 good years at MHS and now because of this injury it looks like she will not be much of a factor going down the last couple of weeks of the season. Everyone could see this during the 2nd quarter of the game. I hope the ankle will improve more, but i just don't see much change over the next 3 weeks.
These same 2 teams will see each other again in the regionals.

I hope you are right my friend, however, if Reynolds beats South Meck, I will be the first one to congratulate them. That team is huge, and Joy Cheek is dominant. The 3's better be falling that night!
I thought Lovik had been moving better than tonight. Maybe she has reaggravated the injury? A few days off may do wonders. I think she should continue to fire the 3 when open.
I think a good long rest will do everybody some good! :laugh1:
Oh, and yes, Kelsea had a wonderful game, and really has played great all year. Congratulations to the whole team!
A lot of good things have come out of tonight's game...
McDowell can come back under adversity. Reynolds was up 7 in the 4th period and I'll admit, I thought we were going to suffer our first loss of the season. But some key baskets, 2 by Greene, 1 by Atkinson, and that 3 pointer by Brown in the face of the Reynolds defender was the biggest shots those girls have made all season long. And that 3 by Brown was especially big because Anna raced over to the corner to rebound her own shot, found Brown up top and Akendra nailed that shot in her face. That was a back-breaker for Reynolds. I believe Akendra had 25 points tonight. I swear, if some of these local Division 2 (Mars Hill, Lenoir Rhyne) or low D1 schools (Gardner-Webb) don't even consider giving Akendra a chance, then these scouts and coaches outta be fired on the spot.
BTW, that Atkinson steal at the end of the game dosen't happen if Kelsea Greene was not all over Katie Rybacki on the in-bounds pass. :xyzthumbs

Dan, I do know that the Tusculum (D2; Greenville, TN) scout was there and was rumored that someone from UNCA and High Point were there (From a source that saw them in the lobby on the way out). So, who knows, maybe Akendra will join Anna and Emily in getting college rides
