Allergy Question

I've never had an allergy problem - until the last couple of months. I've developed this heinous sneezing / watery eyes / itcy nose/back of throat itch when I've been near my cats. I've had the cats for seven years - why would I get it now? Getting rid of the cats isn't an option - soooooooo, are there any alternatives / solutions to this?

i think they probably make a pill to ease your symptoms. either that or the cats must go

Ask your doctor Honey. I could give you the name here for the allergy medicine but it will have a different name there. There is a new one that is specifically for that type of allergy. I second what Yank said, we change. Good news is, it could change back! :satana:
So get to the doctor like you dont have anything else to do this week! :thud:

Thanks SY and Plu. Neat, my body is still changing - bugger. Well, I'll mention it to the Doctor the next time I go. It's really bad at the minute - but I'll survive. Thanks guys! :).

Yeap...SY and Plu nailed that one. I just read an article in a medical journal the other day about a lady who's kid suddenly developed allergies to their cats that they'd had for several years. The article said that it wasn't uncommon for a body to develop an allergy late, kinda like people that had no latex allergies suddenly developing it after prolonged exposure. Weird :)

Isn't it though! Still - thanks for this too Derby. At least I'm not alone in my allergy development :). I've never, ever had an allergy - but the novelty is wearing off real damn fast :mad:.

you can develop allergies with age.

Is Loratdine (Claritin) 10mg legal over the counter there? Once a day usually helps as well as anything I have found.

Claritan, Zyrtec and Allegra are OTC everywhere but in the U.S. and have been for years. The only reason you can get Claritan OTC here now is because they came up with a new version: Clarinex (desloratidine HCL), which they can use to continue to plunder American wallets. Pisses me off that we subsidize the world's pharmaceutical R&D.

I would like to plug Singulair while I have the chance. It's non-formulary in the U.S., which scares me, but it works. It isn't a Hystamine blocker like all the others. It blocks leukocytes (sp?) or some such nonsense. Really, I don't pretend to know how it works, but it seems to work better with no side effects. Being paranoid, I hope it's safe, because I've been using it with good results. It costs a freaking fortune here as there are no generics. Like $2-$3/pill.

Thanks Fred and Hard Harry - I'll get something when I go to the Doctor's next time. I've not asked before, but I'm sure there are some tasty relief meds that I can try and get through this :).
