View Full Version : Am I gonna die?
I don't know if its flu or allergies. Started with a sore throat Tuesday night, then coughing, sneezing, runny nose, all over achey. Felt like shit Wednesday, felt a little better yesterday and went out and did some stuff then last night was horrible. The sore throat is the worst thing. Felt a little better this morning and now I'm starting to feel really bad again. I've coughed and sneezed so much my ribs hurt.
How long will this last?
7-10 days.......rest, fluids and some Advil!
may be a sinus infection draining down the back of your throat brought on by allergies. If it is not better in 5 days, you probably need an antibiotic.

My sore throat has turned into random sneezing and coughing fits. Worse when I lay down. Makes sleeping a lot of fun. Sore throat persists since Monday. Third day of Amoxicillin. 7 more to go. If it's not better by Monday, I'm calling in sick to work. :D

avoid the booze near antibiotic time. Penicillin based antibiotics are often inactivated if mixed with alcohol.

There was a time when I felt like a damn drug machine when I was pumping BOTH of our boys full of Amoxicillin. Infections suck.

Patti,
By now I hope you have gone to the doctor. You need an antibiotic. If you haven't gone, go.

i agree. if it started tuesday and it is still no better, your body needs a bit of help getting rid of it.

Thanks guys.
The thing is I am a 'little bit' better. I no longer fear to swallow thinking my throat is being ripped out with tiny razor blades. But I am no where near 'well'. I am really tired of this shit though.

I'm gonna give you my own NONprofessional opinion about this.....
I think antibiotics are overused way too much and it's good for your body to learn to fight infections on their own.
At the same time, you want to keep your body from being totally wrecked by some infection in case ANOTHER one comes along and they tag-team your ass.
If your body has fought an infection for almost a week and you don't see major results, your body needs the help of an antibiotic.
Even if the infection is viral and an antibiotic won't work, you may be ordered one to prevent a bacterial infection from joining in on the the ass-beating party your body is going thru.
go to da docta patti.
Thanks Fred. I think people take too many antibiotics too. I want them only when I really need them and for them to be able to work.

Mine has moved to my ear. My throat is still sore in the mornings and at night, but during the day, I can manage okay. Eating makes my ear feel like its gonna pop. The Amoxicillin doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm afraid these are allergies and stress related. So...I'm cleaning the house and shampooing the carpets today and tomorrow. Gotta get rid of every speck of dust. Got to. No excuses. Gotta. Talk about stress. :)

Hmmmmmmmmm. Maybe an antihistamine, it's allergy related I believe.

It's most likely a viral infection. It's been going around. It can last from 3-10 days, and nothing touches it. Same old, applies drink plenty and rest. T/C...
