COLUMBUS -- Ohio House Republican leaders say the federal government is requiring the state to budget an estimated $1 million for Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs for Medicaid patients.
House Speaker Jon Husted says budget planners have other priorities for scarce health care dollars, but erectile dysfunction drugs are part of the Medicaid program for the poor and disabled, so the state must pay for them.
The feds say states offering Medicaid prescription benefits must cover all drugs that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are involved in rebate agreements with the U.S. government. States that don’t comply will face sanctions.
