Cortisone shots

Doc has me scheduled to do one in my knee on the 19th barring my x-rays don't show anything next week. Anyone ever had them? Will I be able to return to work or will I be done for the day? (Please tell me the latter, because I really want the day off! :D)

i had one in my shoulder once. nothing to it (sorry). don't allow them to do too many though. the cortisone can tear down a joint if overused.

if you'd like to go a natural route, pop some glucosamine. if after a couple of months you don't have relief, add chondroitin. the glucosamine worked wonders for me, but everyone's different.

Thanks Muff....I'd just like a little relief from this pain in my knee for a little while until it has time to heal. If not, I'm sure he'll schedule an MRI (although I'm not sure why he just doesn't go ahead and do it anyways).

if you're looking for instant relief, the shot may or may not help you. didn't do squat for me. i don't mean to be a downer, but just thought i'd let you know. plus, it does nothing to actually help the joint heal which would end your pain completely.

i was advised to take 2 glucosamine pills 3 times a day for 3 months, then add the chondroitin if that didn't help. within a month and a half my shoulder was as good as new. this was after repeated ortho visits, darvocet, cortisone shots, several mri scans, physical therapy, etc. the last thing my doctor told me was that the body will just have to heal itself. (i guess i had paid for his porche by then, so he was done with me) so i tried the glucosamine and wish i'd known about it from the get-go. would've saved me LOTS of time, money, and pain.

I've got some time this week, so I think I'll do more homework and look into glucosamine. Thanks for advice.....I'm going to seriously look into it.

Cortisone shot #1 was painful.......Extensive rehab on the knee is yet to come so the doctor says as well as more shots. I'm checking into the glucosamine tomorrow night when I'm out and about.

I never noticed them hurting at all. Just a little discomfort but no real pain.
You probably need to stay off your knee till it heals.
