Well, another minor disaster while being here in Florida, I started developing a slight case of poison ivy when i got here (I think from pulling weeds at home) and now it's full blown, all over my arms, legs, and stomach. I got some cream (Olux) and antibiotics and zyrtec from a dermatologist here, but it seems the Olux is causing a worse red rash and I am still getting new spots breaking out. Does the antibiotic (Dynacin) and the zyrtec help this stuff at all??

What a bitch - every time I come to Florida I have something happen to me.

I heard an old wive's tale that if you grind up and eat young poison ivy leaves you become immune to poison ivy. I don't think I'm gonna try it, though.

Sorry about your itch, Silver.

Has anybody actually had this stuff and know how to get rid of it? I need advice, not observations.

Patti, I used to be immune to it as well, I thought. But the dermatologist told me you can become susceptible to it at any time in your life, even if you were supposedly immune before.. So don't roll in any of it.

might want to get a shot of prednisone and pick some of this stuff up -

Rhus Toxicodendron comes from a plant which is a shrub grows in fields, woods and along fences all over North America. It trails along the ground until it finds something to climb up, either a wall or tree or whatever and the plant produces a milky juice which turns black when it comes into contact with the air. This is highly poisonous, which also gives the plant it’s common name of Poison Ivy.

It also goes by other names, like poison vine, poison oak and poison ash. The first time this plant was used was as a remedy for a rash and then for rheumatism, but today it is made into the tablet form for use on many ailments.
The leaves of this plant are chopped and pounded to a pulp then they are left to stand in alcohol to release all the juice, after this the liquid solution is strained and the remains left to dry and then made into tablet form.

I remember my brother having to go to the doctor and get a shot for it once. He had on his genitals. I think he was out camping or something or other and took a piss and had it on his hands. That was his story anyway.

Scratch the hell out of it and then put some bleach on it. Hurts like hell but it'll help get rid of the poision ivy.

yup, you should go spend a day in the ocean. that is the best thing you could do for it..worked landscaping at the coast and whenever I got the ivy, straight to the ocean and it would be gone in no time

go with diluted bleach.

AND DON'T EAT IT! my brother once did that and ended up hospitalized for 4 days. the little idiot also scratched his ass and blistered there too. LOL, jeez that was a funny week, he was 9, his friends had a filed day. imagine how we'd all laugh if it was on your butt or balls silver lol

The ocean near where I am is too trashy to get in, I'd be afraid I'd get something worse than poison ivy from it. It looks pretty from a distance but if you get in there's a bunch of trash floating around.

The poison ivy's starting to clear up a little, I think.

That's what the doc prescribed to me one time. Cold water salt bath. Soak for 15 minutes a day.

To keep t from itching - to keep anything from itching - put it under the shower and keep turning up the hot water. It will itch like shit for a minute or so, but as long as you don't scratch it it won't itch for 8 hours or so.

I get it now - have some on my ankle as I type but I wasn't susceptible when I was a kid - but I remember my dad burning brush in the back yard and he got infected with it from the smoke - he had it EVERYWHERE - even on the inside of his nose and eyelids. He was a miserable grouch for weeks.

Silver I bought something called Rhuli Gel - stopped the itching and made it dry up. But mine was a small outbreak not as bad as yours.

Hot water bleach bath. About a cup depending on the size of the tub.
If mine got really bad when I was young the doc used to give me some pills, dryed up quick, don't remember what the stuff was called.

Jelly fish stings not sure about poison ivy. Getting drunk as piss and looking at hot women tends to help also!!
