Got a new laptop battery for wife's laptop and it will not charge. Barring a bad battery, anyone have any ideas? I tried a BIOS update but that won't work unless the battery is at least 10% charged so that isn't working for me. Any idea how to update BIOS without a battery?

So, it's only been 211 days, anyone have any idea how to make a laptop recognize it's new battery? Please. Thanks.

I had a battery that would do this from time to time on a laptop I didn't use often. I would unseat the battery and wipe/clean all of the connectors on the battery and laptop and it would charge just fine after that.

This is a new battery , but not a a Dell battery. Apparently the Dell laptop doesn't like that. There has to be a way though for this battery to work. It's more of a quest now to make that damn battery charge! lol

Take a wooden pencil eraser and use it to clean the connectors that touch the battery. The little metal pieces found on the laptop. Does it power up w/o the battery connected?

Yes, the laptop works when plugged into an outlet. I get an error message saying the battery can't be charged. I've googled tons of crap and tried several things. Keeps coming back to in order to change the BIOS the battery needs to at least have a slight charge. Problem is the battery has no charge so I can't even get to the first step to change the BIOS to get the damn computer to recognize the battery. Easiest thing to do is probably just buy a new Dell battery but screw that, like I said, this is now a quest.

Does it have a floppy drive? I've actually run into this. If you can get it to boot to a floppy you can update the bios that way. Regardless of the power issue.

Unfortunately, only a CD/DVD drive, or is that what you are talking about?

Can you boot to a USB floppy?
