I've recently re-watched two of our games (GB, @TB).

I have to be honest - there were plays from each where he was beaten pretty badly, but one ended up being a sack and the other was an overthrow. Each would have likely been a touchdown. Then there were his fat turds against Atlanta and OBJ.

He's an excellent player, don't get me wrong. But there were moments last year where I might have had blinders on because of the success. I think I definitely would have had him play under the tag, but I don't know about shelling out what it would have taken long term. I have a feeling his game might not age well, as his already sub-elite speed gets exposed on film. I'd love to hear what all three of you think.

Good stuff. This has been a productive conversation. I'm glad I'm still starting threads here on TBR instead of coaching in the NFL.

I would have been fine with him playing under the tag this year. Wasn't crazy about dumping a shit ton of cash into a CB who was gonna be 30 sooner rather than later.

That's about how I feel. But who knows, maybe he's got several great years left. Perhaps there still might be some tread on the tire after spending 1.4 seasons as Melvin White's fluffer.

Hated seeing him go but hopefully our front seven will help the youngsters grow into things. Plus be fun to see Norman vs obj go at it twice

Norman did get burned on occasion, as he's not the fastest cat out there, but he was still without any question a top five cornerback over the last two seasons. I get why a lot of Panthers fans have blinders on and are pretending that Norman was only good because of the front seven, but that's easily disproven by pointing out that all the other cornerbacks except Tillman (who was solid) were complete trash. Norman is going to be badly missed this season. Gettleman basically admitted that he completely fucked up with the two corner reaches in the draft and restructuring Kalil's contract to move money into this season since there isn't anyone left to spend Norman's cap hold on.

I think he's an excellent corner right now and Id rather have kept him for at least '16

Any sane person would, yeah. Norman being one of the very best over the last two years doesn't mean he'll stay one of the best over the next two, much less five. He has great instincts, but he's going to lose another step when we already noted that he isn't very fast.
