    You might be right, but Hardy's case is being described as a conviction under appeal in the media. If that's not the case, you'd think Hardy's agent or the Panthers would point it out.

    It is only being described as a "conviction under appeal" by columnists who don't know what they're talking about. Note that your link from the AP does not state anything about a conviction, nor did any news stories from North Carolina sources. They talk about the guilty verdict but do not use the word conviction because he was not convicted.
