Panthers considering Mike Shula as QB coach

The National Football Post 1 hour, 2 minutes ago

The Carolina Panthers are still working to put the finishing touches on their new coaching staff, and they met with John Matsko, a candidate to coach the offensive line on Wednesday.

Matsko was fired by the Baltimore Ravens, but it didn’t take any time for him to get on the Panthers’ radar. The Panthers have also interviewed Mike Shula for their vacant quarterbacks coach position, according to Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer.

Shula has spent the last four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rob Chudzinski has been hired as the offensive coordinator, but the Panthers have not pieced together any other parts yet on the offensive staff.

    Shula/Matsko

Interviewing both Mike Shula and John Matsko this week.

Shula is QBs coach with Jax, fmr Dungy/TB OC, Alabama HC.
Matsko was released as line coach in a mass purge in BAL.

    All per gantt.

I still remember how awful Mike Shula was as a head coach. He is intriguing for a QB coach is for nothing more than his last name. The bar has been set pretty low here for QB coaches.

can we change the thread title and add Matsko?

It's becoming obvious the front office is scrambling for assistants with no paticular plan in place. Rivera knew who he wanted for OC, but past that... no plan.... unless they are still waiting for the season to be over for teams in the play-offs

The Ravens have fired offensive line coach John Matsko, and will promote assistant offensive line coach Andy Moeller, according to The Sun.

Matsko had spent the last three years as the Ravens' O-line coach. This year, his group struggled up front, allowing 40 sacks. The issues with the line were also visible in the rushing game, where the Ravens averaged just 3.8 yards per carry - 25th best in the NFL.

Teams in the playoffs aren't going to let their assistants go.

These guys are solid cho ices, and available. They have to hire from availables. Solari and Cable are both off the board, my choices.

Maybe Chud has some say in offensive assistants, too. Just hired Chud.

    Shula? Don't care either way.

Matsko: pin part of those 40 sacks on Flacco's inability to escape and improvise, moreover, Baltimore's woefully inept WR's.
