    Should release Frank Gore and use what's left over from the money in his contract that is not guaranteed and use it to get a deal done w/ Alex Boone. Boone is one of the top Guards in the league and paid like one of the worst. Carlos Hyde is ready to handle the RB duties, and Gore's best days are far behind him.

    Thoughts?

    What does it matter without Alex Smith they'll go nowhere.

    Besides the niners have a lot of contracts coming due, I'd trade boone and draft a replacement.

    I don't think they'd have to pony too much to get Boone a better contract. He's one of the top Guards in football and he's a natural left Tackle. My guess is that 3.5 to 4.0 million per would get him signed. For a team that predicates itself on running the football I'd say Boone's crucial. And let's not forget that if Boone doesn't act like an animal at Ohio State he's easily a 1st round pick coming out of college.

    As of now, Wake Forest alum Joe Looney, is the starter and he's horrible.

    good guards are getting far more than that though (close to 7mil/year), why would a top guard take a paycut?
