Ex-Panther in jail; charged with assault

Just days after Karl Hankton was let go from the Carolina Panthers, he was arrested and put in Mecklenburg County's uptown jail.

Hankton, 36, was arrested after 7:18 a.m. Monday at his Charlotte home and charged with misdemeanor assault on a female, police said. Police records show an officer was called out to the house.

By afternoon, Hankton was still at the uptown jail, being held without bond.

He was released from the team on Thursday as the Panthers adjusted the payroll to make room for salary caps.

Hankton had been the special teams captain for five of his seven years with the team. He previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins.

I wonder if getting cut made him angry enough to cause this?

I wonder if every nation news source will say "Carolina Pather Karl Hankton" is in jail. They normally do that.

I seem to recall another thing like this in his history. I'm looking for a link.

Most likely when he either threw his wife from a (slowly) moving car, or she jumped out of the car. Either way, there was something going on that wasn't good. Doesn't mean it was his fault, but that may have been it.

Oddest thing to me is that he's being held w/o bond, on a misdemeanor.

Damn near anything is "assault" these days too. If it was truly an assault I can't see the charges being misdemeanors, maybe they're gonna "upgrade" him.
