    South Caldwell Football

    Downsouth,

For those of us who support South Caldwell Football , we agree with
you 100% ... :agreed: .... In its last 20 football games the South Caldwell
Spartans are 15 and 5......and were in the sweet sixteen last week for the
first time I can ever remember........ :woohoo: And as for their schedule ,
the only difference in this year's schedule opposed to the schedule they have
had in the past, is they played Avery (5-2) and West Lincoln (2-4) instead
of St. Stephens (0 - 6 ) and Hickory (6-0). But strength of schedule , is
not what is important here. Its the fact that 5 seasons ago, South Caldwell
hired Butch Carter, he assembled his staff and challenged his players to
fall in love with the weight room, committ themselves to the Bigger,Faster,
Stronger program, most importantly...attend summer workouts because,
thats where you make a difference............Everyone always said " you can't
win at South Caldwell, there aren't enough athletes, they aren't big enough,
or fast enough..."they can't compete in the 4A",,,, but these kids didn't
buy in to that, and 15 wins so far. in the last two seasons, has
this community at the games at 6:30 so they can find a place to park.........
And they have done in the right way,,,,the school districts lines haven't
changed, they haven't recruited players from other areas, encouraged kids
to transfer in, or move down to a 3A or 2A classification...The only difference is South Caldwell brought in a new coach, with new ideas who
truly loves his players, challenges them and believes in them, ...they come
to play on Fridays, believing they can win....its all about confidence ...they
aren't worried about what position they are playing , or how much or how
little they are playing,,,,they just want to be a part of this...a lesson a lot
of us should learn from them.............and as they enter this "bye" week
a lot of us can remember that not too long ago there would be smart...
comments of how " at least poor south can't lose this week they have a
    bye...or this week's predictions or Bye 7 , South Caldwell 0 , followed
by all the grinning..... well their are a lot of people with big grins on their
faces now...the difference is ..they are dressed in maroon and silver.... :woot:

    Remember the Spartans!!!

Enjoy the great season you are having. Things have been tough for the Spartans over the years. To see them competitive in football is great. I know that they have not played a killer schedule but they won the games and that is all that matters. Taking a look at the rest of the year, South Caldwell should beat McDowell, but will be underdogs in the other 3 games against Freedom, AC Reynolds, and Alexander Central. The Alexander Central game is a game that the Spartans could win, so lets say you get it. 9 and 2 is one hell of a season. If you don't beat the Cougars, 8-3 is still a big, big, year for the people in Hudson.

Did South Caldwell not finish State runner up in their first year as a school? And they played 3-a State Champ Watagua dern tough the following year losing late in the game.. I played at North Iredell and I'll tell you those early South Caldwell teams were tough. Hard to believe neither started off 3-0. Good Luck to the Spartans.

The Spartans did finish state runner up the first year at the school,
but that team was a 3A team and they started the season 0 and 2 with
losses to 4A Freedom and East Burke...the same thing happened the next
    season..............................

According to Reynoldsrocks and his research, South Caldwell has the 10th easiest schedule in the 4A class statewide. This is gonna hurt them going into the meat of the conference schedule (Freedom, Reynolds, Alexander Central, and even McDowell) and they will get tested. Teams like Freedom, Reynolds and McDowell has faced tough teams in the non-conference and will be hard to beat in the NW4A season. Freedom and Reynolds speaks for themselves, but McDowell is on the losing side of the schedule, but they are getting better, just lost against good teams. Alexander Central had a weak non-conference schedule, but they're loaded and gave Reynolds fits.

South has talent, but they wont be 9-2. After watching Alexander Central, there's no way South will beat them...again, THEY ARE LOADED.

I guess we will have to wait till Friday , November 4th, to see if there
is "no way" the Spartans will beat the Cougars, but that is a long way off,
and both the Cougars and the Spartans have some tough games ahead
of them before they meet in Taylorsville. :umno: Just don't count the Spartans out, I can promise you that there were a lot of people in the area
that didn't think they would beat East Burke in Icard on homecoming........
:woot: they are off this week, some big conference games on Friday, the
Cougars have East Burke, Hickory and Freedom ahead of them. :agreed:

I played at South Caldwell and always knew that Coach Carter would be successful as a headcoach. What does it matter about how tough a schedule a team has played in high school football. Most high schools can beat any team on a given night. Granted some teams are heads and shoulders above others. Don't understand all these Alexander Central people wanting to discredit South Caldwell, because nobody is talking down your team. GO South Caldwell Spartans!

    Amen...

You know it seems so funny , that all the years that South was
losing (badly) nobody seemed to care how strong or weak , South's
schedule was...and since you played there ,,it must be really great
for you personally to see Coach Carter turn this thing around............

Im not counting anyone out... I just merely said that they wont win. I've seen Alexander play and they got weapons on all sides of the ball. They will be very tough to beat.

When I mentioned schedules, it's a proven fact....Teams with tougher schedules are more battle tested against teams that breezed by in the non-conference section. Teams like Reynolds, Freedom, and McDowell will find themselves knowing what to do in tough situations against tough teams because they've been in those situations and know how to respond. Teams that have weak non-conference schedules will ride off success and when they meet adversity, they find themselves spinning their tires off cause they don't know what to do and it will affect their team in the long run.

And by the way "steelballs".....I'm from McDowell, not South Caldwell. And if Davon Gardner keeps up his ways (three consecutive 200 yard rushing games, 1,084 yards currently, NW4A Leader in rushing), South may find themselves in a 7-4 spot, instead of the 9-2 wishful thinking.

I don't care where you are from. The teams will decide on the field, so stop down playing the success of teams. Guess I will have to make it to the McDowell game. Good luck to all teams! GO South Caldwell
