The Triad and Northwest North Carolina baseball community lost a good friend this week. Andrew French, father of West Forsyth catcher Zach French, passed away from an apparent heart attack while watching the West Forsyth / East Rowan baseball game.

The visitation was today and I do not think I have ever seen so many young men in shirts and ties, all coming to pay their respects to Mr. French. It shows what an impact he had on these young people and also shows just how tight the baseball community is in our area. The entire West Forsyth team came wearing their jerseys and rode up on a bus with Coach Bullard. There were also people from Reagan, Mt Tabor, East Surry, Davie and several other schools. I was very impressed that the entire East Rowan team also came - suspect those young men come out of that program as good baseball players and better people who have learned a few life lessons.

Andrew was the President of the East Surry Little League for several years. He was a very generous man who gave freely of his time and talents and was also very generous financially. When he realized that West Forsyth's concession stand did not have hot dogs he went out and bought a hot dog cart and donated it to the school and then spent the time getting it approved by the health department.

Terrific man who was a good friend to many and had a positive impact on a lot of young folks.

    Miss you friend.

Andrew will be missed by so many people.Good man.Had a chance to get to know Andrew when Zach joined our Carolina Bandits travel team.Good baseball parent .Very well schooled on the game. Andrew always had many good things to say about our players their parents and coaches in the Bandit family. Went out of his way to help the youth in his community. The world was a better place with Andrew in it. Zach you and your family are in our prayers.. May GOD comfort your family during these tough times.Coach Smith
