    The question is this:

Who would you recommend (Mecklenburg County Area) that can teach a sophomore the best and safest way to gain velocity. I know that everyone has different thoughts on how and what to do, I'm not looking for that, .... just someone that teaches, is willing to teach and knows what they are talking about.

Alan Tyson for the most important part which is strength and conditioning. He knows the mechanice as well, but you'll get the biggest jump in velo from core work

    Pitching Coach

One of the best pitching coaches in Charlotte right now is Jake Robbins over at Carolina Batting Center. He can help you pick up velocity and minimize the chances of getting hurt by doing it the right way. He has pitched in the major leagues and knows what he is doing - not a pretender.

Philly Dave aren't you a CBC guy? I think the CBC boys would be a bit upset if they knew you were searching for the Dali Lama of pitching. I know the only place I would send my boy is there to work with Jake Robbins! You might find someone with a sign on the side of the road that says "WILL INCREASE VELOCITY FOR FOOD"

    IS it worth...

2, 3, 4 miles per hour? You be the judge! Give me a kid who KNOWS how to pitch and has immaculate control regardless if he throws 60!!!:hang:

    Pitching Velocity

I am always amazed about the velocity question. When I evaluate a pitcher, I never use a radar gun. I recognize quality when I see it. The things I evaluate are:
    1. Mound Presence - is the kid confident and looks like he knows what he is doing.
    2. Control - is he consistently hitting his spots.
    3. Effectiveness - is he getting batters out.
    4. WHIP - the most telling statistic (in my opinion) more so than ERA.

I'll recruit the kid who meets my criteria. I would much rather youth coaches teach a kid HOW to pitch rather than hurting an arm by using poor mechanics.
