The way we are setup right now we are basically screwed if Jake goes down. Facing another year of a reshuffled and rebuilt OL I think it is smart to improve this in the offseason. I am all for dumping Weinkie and Peete. We could make Rutherford our number three and bring in an old vet who is decent and will play for a cheap deal. I can think of several guys like this. Brad Johnson will be cut loose. Mark Brunnell might be cut too. Rich Gannon is likely done in Oakland. Jeff Garcia could be out there. I am not sure if they will be available but a guy like John Kitna or Trent Dilfer would be helpful too. Surely we can do better than Peete and Wienkie.

Okay, start the flamin, but I'd keep Weinke. Three years in this system is why. I keep thinking that Henning has to retire soon and that it might coincide with the end of Weinke's deal. Let the new guy bring in who he wants, and start them fresh in his nomenclature.

I'd probably keep wienke too - but not because "three years in the system" - how many years did Lewis have in the system?

I think it's more important to keep Moose address the oline. A strong running game, and good protection, should be a better friend to qb depth than salvaged from the scrap heap qb's.

Of course, we'll likely salvage both qb and oline.

They signed Rutherford to the active roster for a reason.

Thank God we have Delhomme so we don't have to argue over who's the 'heir apparent' and all that stupid shit that went on for years and years. Still, we had plenty of backup QB bickering last year, too.

This is the least of my worries.

Delhomme blows out his knee in the first game of next season and it becomes a major worry. We would be lucky to win three games with Peete or Weinkie as our starter.

It only matters to me because it would be easy for us to do much better than we are doing now and for a cheap price.

that is the way it is around the entire NFL. Look at the current playoff teams...most, if not all, of them would be royally fucked if their starter went down. Brady in NE, McNabb in Philly, Vick in Atlanta, Bulger in STL, Manning in Indy. Hell, even Dilfer struggled quite a bit in his time filling in for the Seahawks this year.
