In order for the promise of salvation to be fulfilled in the new testiment, man would have to be predisposed to sinfulness. If Adam were to eschew Eve and not partake of the fruit then the need for Christ would not be as great or clear. If only part of humanity were to be sinful it could be argued that they would not be in need of Christ therefore causing much abiguity and confusion.
