Hardwood Floors

My wife and I are considering putting in hardwood floors in a few of our rooms. Does anyone know of a reputable, fair-priced flooring company in Charlotte area? Is Home Depot/Lowe's pretty comparable, or should I steer clear from them? Anything else I should know ahead of time? I think we're only looking to install floors in about 600 sf - mainly foyer, dining room, living room. I'm tired of our carpets!

TIA

I've used lumber liquidators quite a bit. You installing yourself? If not I would stay away from Loews or HD. They will just use some sub con and chances are they will be idiots. Hire a company that does not sub out the work and it will get done right. Better yet, do it yourself It's cheap and easy.

My wife and I are putting laminate in the downstairs of our house. We went Saturday to a couple places. One is in Matthews, Creative Floor Coverings. I think we will end up going with them. The salesman was knowledgeable and not pushy, which we liked. They also had a pretty good selection. Their website is awesome. http://www.createmyfloor.com/

If you're looking for true hardwood, be prepared for some maintenance. If you just want the look without the hassle, I'd suggest laminate. It's a ton cheaper, and all you have to do is run a damp mop over it every once in a while.

I've put both type of hardwood floor down. The fake floors were by far the quickest and less work, no nailing required. I prefer real of fake myself, I think it looks better.

Hardwood great for looks.
Harder to maintain because every bit of dust bunny and other dirt is easily viewable.
Knock something breakable off a table it probably will smash.
Cold floors in the winter but cool floors in the summer.

I have seen alot of work by A company from Huntersville.Forget the name of the company but the contact name is Danny MacEachern@ 704-491-3725.They don't ask any upfront money either. You will have to purchase your materials.just the flooring, and the best place is Lumber Liquidators to purchase flooring.Recommend "Bellowood" 50 year warranty.

you can get either linoleum or shallow-pile carpeting embossed with a hardwood pattern. Go that route. It's cheaper, shit won't break when it falls off the table and you won't have to karate chop any dust bunnies.

That glue is probably an asbestos based glue so be careful.I ran into this problem at my Fathers house, and the only way we got it up was A really coarse sandpaper for A floor sander and it broke the glue down and the floors turned out really good.Do not heat it up until you know whether it is asbestos or not.Make sure before you go to sand it that you make sure any staples or nails are up because the sandpaper gets expensive.Hope I was of help.
